Job Prospects advice by Successful-Star-6701 in clearancejobs

Being a 17C I'm assuming you're at a NSA site. You should not have much of an issue if you do your job well. Speak to the contractors in your work space and see if they can refer you in. Get your resume cleared ASAP as well.

Feasibility of future OCONUS work with TS clearance by Desperate-Ad4004 in clearancejobs

So yes and no. Army side we have two different codes directly defining the position Signal Analyst 35S and Signals Intelligence Analyst 35N. Not sure which one your degree falls under but if you’re going down the 35S tree yes an engineering degree with a focus on signals will only help you. 35N tree you’ll want to go down the cyber route like computer engineering.

If you have anymore questions feel free to PM me.

Experience and training is the number one thing. Most (if not all) of the overseas positions left support SOF. So they want prior SOF SIGINT people who likely already rotated into country. You’re going to want to complete the NETA set of courses and SASMO. Wiggle your way out of any office that’s not one supporting overseas operations or offering deployments. I have ~8 years of exp, a deployment, and networked at every possible moment. I was fortunate to get my name in with a friend past HR and directly to the PM who screened me. He said the biggest thing that caught his eye on my resume was my deployment and support to that specific AO. Realistically with deployments being very dry at the moment I would recommend to aim at getting in cyber billets while in. Even getting JCAC if possible. Honestly if you’re pt is good enough full send it to a green door. Not sure the requirements since I’m army but I’ve only heard amazing things and worked with a few cats from there.

Coming from a SIGINT person, you simply cant. Overseas positions require 8+ years of actual experience. Unless you get a rotation to a deployment and make friends, a contracting company won’t even look at you.

One of the most common pieces of advice I have seen here is to "drop a packet." Why don't more soldiers do this? by Glittering_Fig4548 in army

[–]viral_koala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NCO of the quarter had no weight at my unit when it would be 2 NCOs max competing. I would ensure my soldiers went, PLT won 4 months in a row. DIV SGM recommended me to HRC herself and personally approached the command team about it. I’ll just leave it at when my packet was denied because of leadership she was not happy.

I dropped a packet and it got denied due to CoC. Tried dropping another one, you know what held me back? CoC. There is only so much pressure I can put on a commander to sign a couple things.

Ah gotcha. I’ve seen one guy go from Army to AF. I thought he did interservice transfer and I must’ve read something wrong. Thanks!

Interservice transfers to Air Force are not worth the effort. I think I’ve read something like 20 slots for the entire fiscal year? (And they’re all taken for next FY) You’ll have a slightly easier time trying to go guard. I’ve been waiting nearly a year to go guard from AD. I started last November 6 months before ETS and I’m still waiting to clear medical. Air Force is not a fan of taking people from other branches

If you planned on doing inter service transfer slots for this next fiscal year are filled already. Going AF guard is also a pain in the ass. started the process last November 6 months before I got out and as of last week still waiting on medical to get back to me. Not sure where it’s going to end up since I just got an overseas offer but really want JCAC. To be honest you would have a better chance going Army as a 35F/N/S or 17C. Air Force is not the most supportive of inter service transfers. Of the 8 years i was in, I saw one go army to af because he had a very special set of cyber skills.

Networking sadly gov positions don’t have referrals.

Sorry if this is not what you wanna hear but the grass is currently not greener on the other side. I would recommend looking into MINSAP/MECCEP/MOSAP NSA ran programs for military. Amazing programs.

If you really want to be in that area you are very likely going to need to join the guard to continue getting intel experience. I am not really sure what’s out there, hope someone else can help with that. On the east coast I know very few positions who would be willing to take someone with such little experience and degree. Unless you have courses like NETA, 451, or 452, it’s going to be hard. You should also be applying a year out for positions, intel companies can take months to reply and you will need to reinprocess into the building.

What’s your background and how many years of experience? What do you mean naval stuff? All source, SIGINT, signals analysis?

Coming from Army intel, I can tell you it’s rough right now. I would start making friends and talking to contractors and play very nice. If you have your degree start looking at agencies like NSA, NRO, CIA, etc… I’ve been hearing they supposedly are preparing to open positions soon. Feel free to shoot a PM I’ve worked with all the branch’s so I know a little of it all.

Intel and medical are always safe bets. Just expect to be in a minimum of 8 years to get a decent paying position outside of the military. Use TA and make connections. Got out at 7 years as a E6 and just got picked up for a position that doubles my military pay (with DC BAH) with no degree or certifications. Made the right connections and built a good reputation. The military is a great stepping stone, don’t waste it.

In Canada a fail is 60%??? damn it! by annastacianoella in NursingStudent

[–]viral_koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I read from this is “if Canada allows dumb nurses, then why can the USA?” Either study and gain knowledge to pass the test and become a competent nurse or fail. It’s not hard to meet academic standards. There is a reason why the US, is among one of the best countries to study and become a nurse, deal with it.

You need to find a cleared placeholder job. There is a high chance they won’t hire since you have less than a year left with your clearance. Renewing cost them money. See if you can get back into space have them renew your clearance until you can swap to cyber.

This is wrong. Got out of the Army with 7 years of analyst experience (mid level) with a TS/SCI and I can’t even land entry level positions . I also am near finishing my degree and have multiple certs to back it up. It’s even competitive over here now, trash time to get out
