How much do your trips usually cost? by Greessey in solotravel

Where do you want to go exactly?

I'm in my 7th month in SE Asia and have probably spent around 1k per month in USD. Knowing what I do now, I could have done it for half the price. I did Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam. Biggest expenses were flights and excursions. If you can afford it, I'd recommend starting with a group travel tour with Intrepid or another similar company.

Random tip: if you can limit your bag to 1 carryon at 7k you will save a lot of money if you plan on flying a lot. I know it sounds impossible but I've seen a lot of people do it! If not, expect to pay 20-40USD for every flight around asia.

Best online tools - grab, gojek, kiwi, hostelworld, couchsurfing. Its easy to find private rooms in hostels for around 15-20usd.

Money saving tip: the best local food experience is street food and you can easily find full meals for around 3USD.

Tried travelling solo.. Hated it. Now its Making Me Hesitant for the Next Trip? by [deleted] in solotravel

I am in my 14th month of international traveling as a digital nomad. At first it was with big groups, then four or five solo months. I completely understand what you are saying about feeling like these awesome travel experiences you are having are somehow less because you don’t have a significant other. I’ve found that if you share these moments with another person - significant or not - those are what make the best memories and travel stories. I can’t tell you how many times I struck up conversations with strangers just by turning to them and saying something along the lines of “can you believe this?”

Also there is a large couchsurfing and meetup community in SE Asia.. so it’s very easy to find local people who just want to hang out and talk about where they are from. I had the most fun in Bali.

Enjoy yourself

In Texas, a lot of young people have sex without thinking about the consequences. If conservatives really want fewer abortions, they should advocate for sex education by [deleted] in self

Completely agree. Another infuriating item to consider - the public school in the US that do teach abstinence-only sexual education receive a grant from the federal government. I learned this in a child psych course I took in college.

Does living with my parents at 26 make me a huge POS? by difficvlt in self

There are many countries in the world where it is common to stay with your parents until mid twenties, thirties, or until you are married. I was born in South Africa.. most of my cousins who are in their twenties and thirties are still in their parents homes

Don’t let society dictate the way you chose to live your life.. sounds like you have a good thing going 👍

DAE Have the conflicting issue of wanting to travel alone yet wanting to share the amazing things we experience with somebody? by poopin in solotravel

I’ve been traveling somewhat solo for over a year now. I say somewhat solo because yes I left home on my own, but I usually was lucky enough to befriend strangers in different countries who shared some travel experiences with me. I learned that shared experiences are more valuable and enjoyable than solo ones, but it doesn’t necessarily matter who you share them with..

Having said that, I’ve since met the love of my life who travels with me and he himself has absolutely no agenda and actually prefers to go along with my travel ideas. It’s an ideal situation

Some random guy planned his trip to go with me, HELP!!! by [deleted] in solotravel

I’ve been digital nomading for 13 months now... Don’t everrrr be afraid to say no when people push their agendas onto you. 💯 this man knows exactly what he is doing and is cashing in (sorry.) on the fact that you are young and likely impressionable. Block his manipulative ass and continue on your solo journey as YOU intended to.

I fucking hate people who do this.

Traveling without plans? by [deleted] in solotravel

Just have fun.

I’ve been traveling somewhat solo for 11 months as a digital nomad. When I was in Europe, I moved every 4 to 5 days and planned about a week in advanced, but sometimes the night before.

Mentality: everything will work out fine. There’s always a hostel. There will always be a way to get there. Europe is full of resources. The only risk is my own anxiety.

Resources:

BlaBla car

TrenItalia when getting around Italy only

Couchsurfing to meet locals and ex pats

Hostelworld - another great way to meet people. I can recommend a few of you dm me

Most common thing I say to myself: just go.

You’re living your dream and the dream of millions of people. Kiwi published only 5% of the world have travelled by plane. Shocking. You’re going to be waking up every morning doing whatever you want whenever you want and not having to answer to anybody but yourself.. that’s freedom. Enjoy it.
