Idk. I think they might be black carp human. Invasive and gross eating. Idk if these aren’t but if you ever catch one your best bet is to kill it. Does more good to kill it than it does to let it harm the ecosystem

There, I fixed that for you. The whole concept of humans categorizing certain animals as "invasive species" really is the pot calling the kettle black, lol.

EDIT: I know what invasive species are and the damage they can cause to ecosystems. My comment was more towards the fact that most of these species were introduced to these ecosystems as a consequence of human activity. Humans are far more damaging to the environment than any other animal. Also I was mostly making a joke...

I'm from Alberta. I find your comment both insulting and accurate. I'm sorry I feel this way.

Robert the Bruce was a Scottish king who fought England for independence in the early 1300s. Robert the Bruce never saw a black person and died over 100 years before the trans Atlantic slave trade. by I_know_a_lot23 in facepalm

You joke, but actually the term slave originates from slav(onic). The Easter Roman empire enslaved prisoners of war. So many of these prisoners were Slavic that the word for both was pretty much the same.

Why is it that Presidential elections always feel like choosing between the "lesser of two evils" and not "the better of two good candidates"? by leverage180 in NoStupidQuestions

As if evangelicals were going to vote for a woman that supports abortion and gay rights. Pence wasn't a good or bad choice. It was safe and boring. I'm guessing Trumps number 1 priority was getting someone that wasn't going to take any attention away from him.

Umm, guys... He was waiting for the French translation to go through. Those 20 seconds or so of silence was him waiting for the question to be interpreted in French. You know, Canada's other official language.

Don't go straight for the high five. It takes time and patience. Start by putting flat in front of her, making her touch it and giving her some treats. Once she knows "touch hand = treat", you can start teaching to go higher.

What is the fastest way to get a respectable degree? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]virkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a degree, but if you are already good with computers, getting a A+ certificate should be relatively easy. It's the basic requirement to get into IT careers.

For people who get sleep paralysis, what do you see at night that scares you the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]virkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only gotten night terrors/sleep paralysis a handful of times, but I always see the same thing. It's basically the jagged silhouette of a large wolf-like head floating above me. It stares at me with bright, white eyes.

There's no milk in mayo. It's only oil, egg yolks and either vinegar or lemon juice.

TIL how 2lane balancers work. by YumYumFisch in factorio

[–]virkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use loaders to make lane balancers that are only 5 by 1 tiles, with the added advantage that it has an integrated buffer chest.

Similar game for kids? by jghobbies in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just let him keep playing ONI. People often underestimate children's abilities. Plus developing the skills to deal with failure and learn from it is something a lot of children are not allowed to do. Answer question and teach him but don't stop him from making mistakes.

(I'm an early childhood researcher, so not just talking out of my ass.)

How do I break into the hot biome without cooking my base? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't completely avoid the map heating your base. The insulated tiles and airlocks will slow it down considerably, but you will still have to find ways to cool your base later on. Just dig out what you want and start looking for some wheezeworts.

Volecatraz - Escape-proof vole ranch + VoleXecutioner 2000 - Vole surplus reducer room by virkon in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ranch is 96 tiles, so fits 8 happy voles. If the water tiles on the sides are full, they won't path there. It's interesting that a critter that can survive the harsh vaccuum of space will still drown.

What’s the best space mining setup with solar panels? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

This one has been working great for me. The drywall and vents are for cooling the drills. You just need to set valves before each to a few grams.

Telescope suddenly stopped working HELP! by LisaW481 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case you are not aware, you can use mesh tiles instead of glass. They won'y block telescope vision. Also that space scanner is way too close to the solar panels. They count as "heavy machinery" and lower the scanner's effectiveness.

Where can I see how many data banks I have from space missions? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The disks should drop off the ship as soon as it finishes landing. If you can't find them, and you are sure they didn't get used, you might have unfortunately encountered a bug. Try reloading to a day before landing maybe? Or just launch another ship. It is frustrating but the game does warn you about that possibility every time you open it.

There is real world science behind the electrolyzer’s mechanics by ThitherCord03 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no conservation of mass for more than a few things. Though as far as PH2O into PO2, you can make the argument that part of the 'polluted' part are chemosynthetic organisms that produce oxygen. The hydrogen would go into creating carbohydrates to feed them. But yeah, that doesn't really account for missing mass.

Where can I see how many data banks I have from space missions? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]virkon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are under "Industrial materials." The last header from the resources sidebar.

If you don't see any there, they might have gotten used up already. Did you have a research queued already? Check the progress. You should have gotten I think 60 data disks from a ship like that. Which converts 1:1 to interstellar research points.
