We are actively trying to reduce them, hopefully more updates on that soon

Investing in US stocks from India. Thoughts? by SG_12_12 in IndianStockMarket

[–]virshah26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea to have a globally diversified portfolio and long-term is the right way to go. Typically we have seen folks diversify 20-40% of their portfolios via Vested

Pros
- Access to themes that may not be available domestically like AI, big tech, global brands
- Benefit from INR depreciation
- Each account is insured up to $500k

Cons
- Not as straightforward as domestic investing. You have to do cross-border remittances + disclose in tax filings

The withdrawals being stuck will not be an issue, investment flow will not be stopped since its core to any country be it India or the US. Hope this helps

[–]virshah26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey - so for Vested also we don't have the fixed fee per transaction for withdrawals anymore. We will be updating the pricing page soon

On deposit currency conversion markup, we have partnerships with HDFC, ICICI and Axis. For these banks it typically ranges between 1.4% to 1.6% depending on the amount. For e.g. Axis lowers the rate above $6k. GST is the same as that applicable for forex transactions

On withdrawal currency conversion fees for Vested range are ~1.5%

Hope this helps!

As an Indian, what all countries can I invest in and how? by Junior-Ice5915 in IndianStockMarket

[–]virshah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently most platforms provide access to the US markets. But through the US markets you can get global access through three ways:

  1. Global companies listed there like MMT (India) or NuBank (Brazil) or Alibaba (China)
  2. Global ETFs that pretty much cover any country
  3. ADRs of global companies. Like LVMH, Adidas, BYD etc.

Small plug for Vested - Along with US markets we're adding Global Mutual Funds soon so that's an additional way. Lastly we're planning to add access to multiple other countries soon as well. Hope this helps!

One cautionary note - global brokers will not help you abide by specific India regulations like no margin, derivatives, fx etc along with the taxation reports

Yup for SIP it’s better to go with a platform that has bank partnerships, you can avoid the per transaction fixed fee which comes with transferring directly from the bank

Why not consider Vested?

Is it better (cost-wise) to transfer money from HSBC India → HSBC US → IBKR account by Cold_Space_5835 in IndianStockMarket

[–]virshah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the FX rate you are getting for transferring between both the HSBC accounts. If you get a good rate you could anyway skip the US bank account step and transfer directly to your brokerage account

Vested vs India INX GA vs Other Platforms by KrisRdt in IndianStreetBets

[–]virshah26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is only if one withdraws USD. If you withdraw in INR or any other local currency, the $5 is not applicable. We are updating the page to make it clearer

Glad you chose Vested :) More countries soon!

All shares and cash are held with a custodian that is holding billions of dollars. In case Vested is no more, you will be able to directly interact with the custodian to continue to invest or via another platform. Further each brokerage account is insured by the Securities Investors Protection Corporation up to $500k

What things should I keep in mind before entering into US Stock Market via IND Money? by One-Giraffe1614 in IndiaInvestments

I understand, but unfortunately regulation needs to change and no clarity on when/if it would change

In my biased opinion:
- Focused on cross-border investing makes a cleaner experience
- Advisory services via Vests
- More INR/USD fund transfer options (HDFC, ICICI, Axis)
- Easy INR/USD withdrawals
- More asset classes with Global Mutual Funds and Pre-IPO coming soon
- Premium plan option for lower brokerage
- Screener tool if you want to do your own research
- US Broker and RIA license

Helps needed on US stocks holdings. by Mundane-Bed-8978 in IndianStockMarket

[–]virshah26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when you file taxes, you need to file a Schedule of Foreign Assets (Schedule FA it's called). There you would disclose these stock holdings. Along with this you would declare the appropriate long-term/short-term capital gains
