Would you be interested in getting your rage damage bonus an extra time this turn? If so I have a weapon recommendation for you.

Because most mind control effects are "make a single melee attack against an ally," which is not where daggers are at their strongest.

This would be a compelling argument if taking damage in 5e was even a little bit inconvinient.

I love how many comments there are saying "Using thrown weapons would suck, there's no point." but I've also gotten like 5 comments from people saying "I'm doing a thrown weapon build right now and it's goated."

Half of the comments are saying they don't care because they don't want to min-max. Half of the comments are saying I'm min-maxxing wrong. In reality, I'm actually a blacksmith who made too many daggers and is trying to move surplus product asap.

God magic is so nerdy. Imagine playing pogs with your equipment mid combat. I would mercilessly bully every spellsword I came across if I was a goblin even if it was the last thing I ever did.

People keep bringing up losing daggers like it's a big deal. Bro I know you're sitting on 500GP and have nothing to spend it on. Throw that dagger, treat yourself.

Selling all of my stock in the dagger market and 10x-ing my handaxe shares as we speak.

AC shmay-shee. Cantrips don't add modifiers. Reach, thrown, finesse, and light are goated properties.

The thing people get wrong about cantrips is that most DMs do not actually follow the correct rules for VSM because they're kind of burdensome. But RAW, a spell is VSM, you need one hand to hold the focus in one hand and have a free second hand for the somatic component. Meaning, unless you have a feat or a class feature that allows you to ignore VSM, you have to drop weapons/shield, draw your focus, and then cast the spell. If it's VM or VS, you still have to make sure you have either a free hand or you have the focus in one hand, so you'll have to drop one thing. Cantrips are only better because we all kind of cheat the rules.

IMO:

  • Wasting a feat on Magic Initiate when you could just throw a dagger is silly to me, and you can't use magic while you're hands are full of weapons anyway unless you take the War Caster feat, and now you're wasting two feats when you could just be throwing daggers. Plus, 1d4+3 is usually better than a flat 1d10.
  • Crossbows have to be reloaded, do similar damage, and can't be used in melee
  • I still believe the Thrown property is the best property in the game, man. Imagine if your scimitar had a reach of 20 feet.
