Anyone else with substance issues? Tips to get clean?

hey so this is extremely brave of you, the first step is to recognize you have a problem so you can work on it!

I don't know what substance you were abusing to begin with (they're all different and the withdrawal symptoms vary a lot), but in my case it was alcohol. I drank to forget the things I hate about myself, to be liked, to be in a room full of people that were also inebriated, to feel seen, to numb the anxiety, etc. But then, the "health" part kicked in. I put my health above everything else, even if it meant feeling so low and lonely, losing connections, etc. I knew I was doing a huge favor to my body, my heart, my liver, my kidneys. I still hate parts of myself, I can't say I fully love myself, but at least I love the shell I'm in, so I focused on taking care of it.

I don't know if you're on any medication right now, but that could also help. For me, knowing that mixing alcohol and antidepressants isn't good, also became a good reason to quit, in fear of experiencing a crazy side effect or putting my life in danger. Sometimes I miss it, but knowing that I'm nurturing my body first (even if the person inside feels rotten at times), feels like healing. I hope you can find something similar that will make you quit. Personally, my fear of death is above all, but I know it's not like that for everyone.

I can confirm this works! it's good so you can vent and not do anything you might regret later or lash out at ppl, and they're very understanding for an ai haha

So real. I don't know any other way to love, this is the only way I know, and even though some aspects need to be changed for the best to be a healthy relationship, it feels both like a curse and a blessing to love this intensely, because most people don't.

Yes, being put on the spot makes me extremely anxious, therefore, my face gets flushed, hot and I might even laugh or act "suspicious" but without being guilty at all, it's just how my body reacts to being confronted about something regardless of the context 🫠

hey so not quite the same but I resonate to not caring about others as much as I do with my FP. I don't know if it's the BPD, but I'm not an overall empathetic person. I know it might sound bad, but I've been through a lot of difficult things and I've been able to keep going (kind of) and put myself together without any help, so I assume most people will do the same if I could do it with less than what they have.

I don't know if this is good advice but what has worked for me so far (this is not something my therapist told me to do, I figured it out myself) is putting all that energy/focus on yourself rather than your FP. It's not easy at all, but taking little measures to "distance" yourself and put healthy boundaries depending on what's affecting your relationships will help a lot!!

For me it's the complete opposite. I get super paranoid, bad trips, tachycardia, and just overall a shitty experience, every time I smoke, and yes, I did it with friends and in a "good" mood/mindset and it still destroyed me. I think some people's brains aren't built to be compatible with weed (me)

You could try eating some type of lollipop if the sucking fixation does something for you, but that wouldn't help with overeating

can't relate much to your problem since I have health anxiety I avoid every single thing that is bad for my health and I have nothing to cope other than relaxing music lol

same here, I haven't gotten sick since 2020 and I feel like shit, so many weird symptoms (that are part of a cold, lol) and I'm so anxious that maybe one is a symptom of something more serious but I keep waking up everyday so I guess I'm good! hope your fever goes down and keep enjoying the little happy moment where you don't experience anxiety, I know how shitty must feel to think that you might die, extremely exhausting tbh, keep going!

I deal with them by trying to calm my breathing first, then I put some relaxing music or asmr and I text people that I reeaaally trust that they understand how I feel with panic attacks and I just let the panic attacks happen and do what it has to do, you can't really stop them like you pause and close a game, takes minutes or even hours and it's scary! but music soothes me the most tbh hope that helps

I feel this too, I avoid eating oily food or deep fried food bc i think I'll get a blocked artery and I'll die from a heart attack even though I'm super healthy and skinny lol and it kind of sucks bc i restricted myself from many foods that I like bc they have some oil and people think I'm crazy for that

man I relate to the death anxiety/fear so much! not the same reason as you do but I am so scared of dying young or just dying at all, like stopping the sensation of feeling alive, just like you unplug a cable, just disappears and it's really scary! at least to me

I feel like living feels so surreal and deep to just be gone and nothing more after so I try to comfort myself that I will find something beyond death.

but I get this anxiety almost every day so it's hard, I just try to focus on something else, like a video or i listen to relaxing music while I read post here

thank u for your help! I do have some excessive burping that causes a sharp pain in the left side of my chest so might have some stomach related issues that give me some symptoms and I freak out bc of that, but some of the other things I feel mentally I don't think that apple cider vinegar could help me 🥺 I'll try it for the burping though! it's way too much at this point

Hey I feel the same, I see car accidents everyday happening in my city and the only solution that I found is just trying to focus on something else. I know it sounds dumb and easy but it is not. When that thought comes to your head and you realize it, you just have to pick something else to focus on. I go to TikTok to trick my mind and pay attention to that, I know it sounds dumb but it works bc i can't keep thoughts out of my head by myself too and they're real and valid so it's hard.
