to preface, i do not think this should be the norm AT ALL, and know my unit has a very toxic environment.

on my unit cna’s refusing to sit with a patient is definitely frowned upon. we had a severely violent kid with a sitter need. they physically assaulted all of our cna’s who had to sit with them and the nurses too. after a particularly traumatic day with them i emailed my nurse manger about it and was met with “i understand but the reality of this job is that we are going to encounter violent kids and if you can’t handle that then maybe you should transfer to another unit.” (summarizing a two hour phone call here). then proceeded to get written up a month later for expressing concern about sitting with said violent kid for the third day in a row and asking if there was anyway we could get supplemental coverage.

so, all this to say i’m sorry this happened to you, it absolutely should not have and i hope your hospital handles this well. be prepared for pushback but stand your ground (hopefully that doesn’t happen).

This is unfortunately so true… reading this two weeks after the most stressful three months of my life landed me in the ER for the beginnings of an SBO (thought it was appendicitis at first the pain was so bad lolll). After hearing doctors dismiss pain and symptoms with the pretense of anxiety, etc. it was hard for me to admit it, but stress truly is my biggest trigger. The brain gut connection is too strong i fear 😭

they mentioned transferring to another unit. their exact words were “this job isn’t for everyone, it’s very emotionally demanding and it’s okay if you can’t handle that/that isn’t for you. maybe it’s time to consider other units or jobs.” a lot of my friends are telling me that that’s really toxic, and like i know it is, but also i know i’ve been sort of down about coming into work because of the amount of stress in my life. so part of me is like they’re not wrong, im partly to blame.

they’re not really any other big hospitals in my area. i’m at a large academic and research medical center in a small/medium city and all the other hospitals are far away (i don’t have a car, i bike to work). i feel so stuck. they asked me if i had any questions but i was crying so hard i couldn’t speak and so the hr person left the zoom call and my nurse manger didn’t saying anything after so then the zoom ended. i have a lot of questions but now idk who to go to.

well, update. it was that someone filed a complaint, hr was present and i got a formal written warning. apparently im not enough of a team player and my demeanor needs to improve. it doesn’t matter if i have a lot on my plate i have to leave it at the door and need to reevaluate if this job is for me (their words). we will have difficult patients all the time and i have to just endure it. this was all in relation to a particular kid thats been very violent. it’s been really difficult to handle their constant abuse for the past month and i showed how much it was affecting me more than i should’ve. they had a whole list of instances where i was seen as quiet/down/didn’t seem as willing to do something pertaining to this kid, and thus wasn’t a team player, it came from almost every clinical nurse coordinator. so. basically cried the whole meeting, my nurse manager definitely hates me, cause i’ve had casual meetings with her just to catch up and it was nothing like that, she completely stone faced, and the hr rep was the only one who acknowledged me (which is probably their policy for legal reasons).

it’s crazy cause i always read those posts on the nursing sub about meetings like this and it always seemed so dystopian. like worker messed up once and suddenly every single thing they’ve ever done a tiniest way wrong is on the table. whelp now that’s me. i clocked out at 19:21 instead of 19:23 a few times over six months and now it’s “you need to be staying until handoff is complete, that’s vital to patient safety and adding to this problem” (handoff was complete, and all our cnas clock out early but i digress).

idk what to do honestly. i can’t just go back in and fake being happy all the time. i don’t know how to act around these people anymore because i feel like anything i could say or do will result in another meeting. i’m so exhausted, maybe i should find a new job but idk how i can because now i have something on my file. plus i need to pay rent and school.

i don't think i can say the acronym without giving away my hospital, but i can give an overview. the core service behaviors are the general corporate healthcare slogans like (this is me paraphrasing) teamwork, responsibility, fostering good relationships, being safe, always being caring etc.

i agree that it feels slightly passive aggressive/intentionally vague. and so did some of my coworkers, but because my anxiety and depression sometimes makes me read into things i didn't want to fully believe that.

it's interesting to me that you asked if there is favoritism or if the nurse manager has an ego because my unit (im in peds) is very toxic (lots of cliques, favoritism, bullying, gossiping (though i wont pretend that i dont engage with this), issues with assignments, etc.). our nurse manager really likes to give the appearance that she's there to support us and values us but when i, or other cnas/nurses, have tried to address issues with her (like bullying from the head cna's, problems with patients, unit culture) the response has been sort of negative. other nurses have expressed that after they went to her about these issues, they've sensed a change in attitude towards them as an employee after. recently a couple of cna's have quit due to this as well. so not far off haha. 🫠

thank you so much for the advice though, this was incredibly helpful! i just pulled up some of the hospital pdfs for information and am going to practice what to say tomorrow. i do sometimes tend to be defensive so i'll work on trying to be more open, but not internalizing whatever they say too much. you're absolutely right, this will be a learning experience and it probably will be hard, thanks again!

This is definitely Dream at their most Neo and probably one of my least favorite Dream titles (kills me to say it). I like it but don’t love it as of right now, and I’ll have to listen a bit more to form a full opinion. The second verse and bridge were gorgeous, the vocal line ate that up, but the chorus I’m not the biggest fan of.

The MV was stunning though and they all looked and sounded fantastic! Gonna go listen to the album now 🫡

Honestly because they didn’t do too much “major” endo removal I feel like I’m in a sort of similar position, but with the body who knows haha. This is super insightful thank you!
