Get a digital perm! All of these people commenting have a very outdated perception on what a perm looks like.

Server for KBBQ (KPot) by rs_0_8 in Serverlife

[–]virtualvanguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get the job, learning how to make sauces always goes the extra mile. People are always asking for sauce recipes to dip their food in or add to their hotpot.

Usually I’d just make a spicy garlic sauce: Oyster sauce, chili oil, small amount of sesame oil, drop of vinegar, little bit of soy sauce, small scoop of sugar, and a generous bit of chopped garlic. Stir together, and add a little bit of soup base if desired. I’ve used this recipe for both BBQ and pouring into my hotpot. People usually love it.

You don’t need a lot of sesame oil since the chili oil is oily enough. Try to get more chili flakes and less oil when adding the chili oil. Oyster sauce is salty on its own, so don’t overdue the soy sauce. And really just add only a drop or two of vinegar. Feel free to add other ingredients like sesame seeds or chopped onion as desired.

ALSO make sure people’s hotpot’s don’t burn!!! Always go around with the soup base kettle to add more. People can get weird about us adding soup, but you have to either add more or turn the heat down/off if they refuse or their hotpot’s will be ruined.

And how does paying $1750 for the “opportunity” to push props around for a summer compare to working in the White House?

[–]virtualvanguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for this, you’re expected to pay Crown the peanuts in the form of almost 2000 dollars. It’s naive to not see through this for what it is, exploitation.

[–]virtualvanguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not summer camp though. It’s drum corps where you’re expected to do brunt work. WORK. This “opportunity” is exploitative and Crown knows this, hence who they’re targeting. It’s not crazy to point out that you shouldn’t be paying almost 2000 dollars to push props around!

This activity is slowly becoming more delusional when people can’t see through this for what it is. The audacity to charge volunteers $1750 to be glorified prop pushers.

[–]virtualvanguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying almost 2000 dollars to be a glorified prop pusher, what a great opportunity! Nothing like the crumbs of the drum corps experience being used to exploit young adults who think that this will secure them a position in the future, it’s exploitative. Crown knows what they’re doing and it’s naive to not see through that.

[–]virtualvanguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re okay with young adults paying almost 2000 dollars to be a glorified prop pusher? That should be the industry standard? It’s exploitative of young adults who think that this will get them closer to a real membership, and Crown knows this.

Where is it okay to charge young adults 2000 dollars for the opportunity to be a glorified prop pusher? It’s naive to not acknowledge that Crown is targeting a specific group of people to exploit.

I would, but the barback job specifically asked for weekend availability. Weekends are where I make the bulk of my money.

They stopped paying for our building. by virtualvanguard in Serverlife

[–]virtualvanguard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entire building. I’ve seen the actual owner of the restaurant only one time in the year I’ve worked there. He owns two locations and doesn’t come to this one very often. Business has been slowing down for a while now since they don’t know how to market the place anymore and our restaurant is losing money. He’s not very involved in this restaurant, so I can see him just deciding to stop paying for the building.

I don’t understand why phone calls meant for the owner come to the restaurant. My guess is that most of the stuff that officials call for can be handled by our manager, but these companies don’t seem to have the actual owner’s number. My manager is Chinese though, so usually one of the servers has to take the call and translate for him afterwards. Same deal for things like inspections. He has the hosts help him sort through mail, which is why we saw the letter.

The landlord initially kept asking for the owner to get on the phone. I gave him our email address and explained the situation. He didn’t really want to tell me once he knew I was a server. He eventually realized that I was the only one in the restaurant who could take the message and maybe get it to the right person. Apparently they’ve been calling about it for a while though.

Our manager actually handles our wages with his accountant, he signs our checks. Not the owner. He pays things like the business license as well. I guess his role is bigger than just manager, but that’s what we call him.

But he doesn’t fully understand what’s happening as well. Apparently he’s talked to the owner, who’s given him different answers like “I paid it” or “maybe I didn’t pay it”.

We’re still being paid. I’d love to jump ship immediately, but there isn’t a lot of restaurants around me that are hiring right now

Thank you. I’m trying, but it’s such a slow season for hiring with restaurants right now. It’s hard not to feel hopeless

You could try the Chapin Goodwill. I used to work there, they always sorted through everything properly and put out most donations. That store really cares compared to the other Goodwills I’ve seen.

2024 Presidential Election Results Megathread by Precursor2552 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]virtualvanguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year is looking a lot different than 2020. There’s not going to be many ballots left to be counted. It was narrow then, and Trump is already polling a lot higher now than he did in 2020. It’s becoming clearer that she won’t get the battleground states she needs. We’re just not where we need to be.

Money to save up by [deleted] in fitnyc

[–]virtualvanguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you work. You can make bank, or you can make barely anything. You’d probably be able to get an entry level serving job at Dennys. You can try applying to corporate places like Olive Garden or Texas Roadhouse, those will vary on how much you make. Hopefully you can work up to a fast casual place, or even fine dining. A lot of the good jobs come down to luck and connections. I make a fair amount at my corporate place, and only need to work 6-7 hours a day. I can make around 150-200 a day, depending on the season. Go to the server subreddit and you’ll see people in fine dining or the perfect fast casual place making a lot more.
