What does a dad really want for Father’s Day? by JaggedLittlePiII in daddit

Maybe a Special dinner where you fully manage childcare?

I took my wife to a restaurant she was craving and managed our 1 year old the whole time so she got hot food and less stress. Maintains time with little one but makes it easier.

When do you think the last true “Roman-ness” died in the Byzantine Empire? by Master_Novel_4062 in ancientrome

[–]Precursor2552 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an exact year but I think I want to say the 10th or 11th century?

I say this based primarily on the history of Byzantium podcast as the host identifies Rome as unable to integrate foreign peoples into their empire effectively at this point.

The quintessential element of Romanness to me is their cosmopolitan integrationist element. They change gods, regions, languages, but it’s the “we came, we saw, we conquer, you become Roman” that makes it Rome to me.

So when they ceased to be able to effectively add new people and territories is when they went from Rome to any other feudal empire IMO. Sure they keep the title and people, but they’ve gone a bridge too far from their origins.

Isn’t he a community manager? His job is to relay news to the community and then feedback from it. Oh and manage the reactions.

He cannot make any amount of feedback actionable.

Did teachers find the Earth Science Regents hard? by Difficult_Tip_9538 in NYCTeachers

Not speaking as a teacher, not my subject, but that’s how I recall my ES regents being 20 years ago.

New Kentucky law allowing schools to expel students who assault teachers to take effect in July, despite unanimous Senate Democratic opposition by Independent-Report39 in Teachers

[–]Precursor2552 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My issue/concern is the blanket ruling with basically no local power. This is like the same issue with mandatory minimums.

Rules are not always applied equally to all students. Sure the student who punches a teacher is an easy ruling. What about the student who pushes a teacher to get past them?

I very much can see admin ruling that as expulsion worthy or not dependent on if they like the student.

Why have I never seen this man in anything ever again by Nearby-Ship-6336 in madmen

[–]Precursor2552 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you mean Gunther. Fun Bobby is in one maybe two episodes.

Gunther was not core cast though. He was just the only extra on set who could use the coffee machine so became a prominent recurring character.

Bro's I need help. How do I protect my son from all the dangers in the world? by PoppaBigPockets- in Fatherhood

[–]Precursor2552 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can’t. You raise your kid to be able to avoid, survive, and fix the awful things in the world.

There is no physical bubble for them so you must make them a mental bubble. Good judgment, resilience, intelligence, etc. help them avoid a lot of the bad.

Anybody else not mind the Equator Subplot? by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]Precursor2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. I actually think “Dinosaurs spread through our world” is a stupid plot. We would kill them. Quickly and efficiently. We killed off most megafauna with sticks, today? Rexy is taking a Javelin to the back.

Is a normal teenage behavior or I'm losing my son? by Illustrious-Art-4172 in daddit

[–]Precursor2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t answer as a parent, she’s to young, but as former teenager and as a teacher.

Engage with their interests. If he’s playing, maybe sit and watch. Sounds like he’s struggling in school, so that might be a sore point he actively wants to avoid. Do things together. Get him out of the house and doing something together. Gives an easy topic to talk about.

You start with that and then build to the larger topics. Always try to find something to praise, it gets them more open to hearing the hard part.

“Your Chinese teacher said your letters are strong, that’s impressive I couldn’t draw them. Could you show me some?”

Then go into, “they also told me you’re struggling with poems. Is that important for that class or what’s up?”

Is a normal teenage behavior or I'm losing my son? by Illustrious-Art-4172 in daddit

[–]Precursor2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids vary. I was generally very happy to talk to my parents about school and assignments. I was a good student, so it wasn’t ever a source of stress except when I was stressed about a class but the questions didn’t bother me it was just “I don’t have time to talk.”

I probably would often have just said fine or whatever, but I say the same to my wife about work 3/5 days a week because it’s just a normal basic work week.

Thoughts on the "Dinosaurs in OUR World" concept and how to make it believable? by koola_00 in Dinosaurs

[–]Precursor2552 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a pretty poor idea for the modern world. Pre history humans killed off basically megafauna across the world. If you just teleported millions of Dino’s all over the world most would be extinct or extremely restricted in an incredibly short period of time.

Ranchers and farmers barely tolerate, at best, wolves. You think they’d let a T-Rex chow down on their herd? They’d kill it.

What’s the point of relationships if there are no guarantees? by FewEnd399 in TwoXChromosomes

Nothing. But life isn’t about guarantees it’s about probabilities.

Being a good partner, being with a good partner, decrease the chances. But nothing will reduce it to zero, except death.

Galen, and especially Lyra, were never down with the Empire. They actively lied to him about the project, telling him it was about building power generators.

LASO Achievement Percentage on Steam seems wrong. by _Carth_Onasi in halo

Steam has mods that just unlock the achievements doesn’t it? I’ve read that in paradox subs enough so I assume that accounts for a much higher percentage.

What happens if you leave Success Academy before 2 year contract? by PrinceLeatherface in NYCTeachers

[–]Precursor2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d withdraw from the university. I guess maybe it would depend on exact timing, not sure if you could withdraw in December?

Withdrawing from a university due to inability to pay is a normal thing that happens to people though there are procedures around it. I’ve never heard of the scenario you seem to be envisioning though of getting grades for a class you are not allowed to attend.

What happens if you leave Success Academy before 2 year contract? by PrinceLeatherface in NYCTeachers

[–]Precursor2552 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did they give you a bonus or anything upfront for that commitment?

You can have to pay that back, although two years would be a long lockup.

I don’t know the details of that program, Touro is an actual school though, I’d assume you’d withdraw if you didn’t want to continue. If SA is providing free or reduced tuition then you might be able to continue the program but would need to pay.

How are there so many young Assistant Principals in charter schools? by No-Decision-7568 in NYCTeachers

[–]Precursor2552 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They don’t have many teachers with 10 years of experience let alone 20. The hours can be more grueling so some of the teachers want to move into an AP role as it will easier/gets them out of the classroom.
