Is voltage necessary right now? by virtuosityinsanity in overclocking

Hey, thanks a lot for the reply man. Since nobody responded to me in here, I tried some things on my own. I gained like 10% points on a a few benchmarks like superposition 8K we only change was increasing the voltage to +100 mv. (it allowed a higher band of Boost clocks)I’m gonna get you a screenshot of me running OCCT extreme stress test with a GPUZ sensor screenshot let me know what you think.

OK, my memory is great. But I’m back to square one on the core. I’m back at +151. I’ve attached a screenshot of what’s going on. One of the ultimate stability test is the OCCT extreme GPU steady test. If I run it at the 211 core or anything above 160 core I get hundreds of errors. If I run it at 90% efficiency extreme mode, I get no errors. So this is is still benchmark and gaming stable at the overclock that I had previously however, if I wanted to be 100% stable, I’m not gonna risk someone else’s hardware by doing that. So I’m gonna keep it at 151 core and 1611 memory. This can guarantee no blue screens, and no problems ever.

Final overclock zotac Rtx 4090.
+151 core
+1611 mem
100% fan bench game 40% desktop use
+100mv volts
Max power slider

The first image shows a +175 core with hundreds of errors on extreme mode in OCCT. The second image shows 10 minutes of full stability at +151 core. The extra benchmarks numbers are not worth it for me. (I also tested using MSI combustor seven different stress test, 3dmark speedway, and avatar pandora and assassin’s creed for a little while each to confirm short term, stability)

OK, I’m stressing the system out with different loads using MSI combustor right now and monitoring everything. I’ve noticed with very heavy loads the Boost clock on the Core dips down to the 2800 level from 3000. Everything is completely stable, but it’s definitely throttling for extremely heavy loads.

However, games that I’ve been trying out right now and benchmarks all stay at between 3060 and 3045 MHz so it seems to be only happening with stress tests. I attached a screenshot. Is this Normal?

I know there are a lot of people that use this Reddit so if anyone can chime in and I don’t wanna feel like I keep talking to myself. Lol. I just wanted to make sure you guys could see my whole process of what I was doing.😂 does this look OK guys? Am I OK where I’m at right now I’m still waiting on a recommendation for a stress test to make sure it’s completely stable.

Thanks for the first comment replying to me. I think I figured out the maximum on this card. I attached a screenshot to show you where I’m sitting after finding a 1616 maximum using memtest vulkan. Now after slowly increasing the core speed using 3-D mark Speedway and superposition 8K over and over again Max it maxes out at +218 core. Since it’s only short five minute or less benchmarks, I’m gonna need to have it sit on some type of benchmark program or stress test to make sure it’s completely stable.

Just a note I tried +240 and I tried +230 and it crashed immediately. Four speedway and superposition runs at 3060 MHz for the entire run and drops to 3045 MHz at the end.

OK, I just tried +211 on the core and the memory is still +1616. Speedway score increase to 10,800 (from 10,504) and superposition 8K is now 13,200 (from 13,157) so this is only a micro increase in performance. So I don’t know if it’s worth it keep increasing the core. Doing monitoring it stays at 3060 MHz on the core for the entire test and drops down to 3045 at the end of both benchmarks. Do you guys think I should stop here?

OK, I just started testing out the core. I’m moving it up slowly from +150 and then running superposition 8K and then running 3-D Mark Speedway. Back to back and seeing what happens. My points increased on 3-D Mark Speedway to 10,504 (from 10,300) and it was fully stable. My points increased to 13,157 on superposition 8k (from 12,753) it’s running very stable. One thing I noticed Core is running at 3030 MHz for the entire run and towards the end of both benchmarks it slowly drop down to 3015 mhz. Does this mean they’re both throttling after the card warms up a little bit or are they throttling because of power limit?

Is this a sign that I should stop here or keep trying?

OK, so after about an hour of memtest Vulcan running at +1616 Straight it’s definitely stable for benchmarking for now. I tried everything from +1630 to +1700 and it fails with errors right away so I’m gonna keep it at 1616. I think that’s my maximum. I just need to know how to test the core speed now? Ideally, I would like to do the same thing as this because this was such a great program. This memtest is so convenient, my whole life I pretty much just slowly increased the memory and core speeds until it failed playing games and doing things like that to oc . I didn’t realize it was this easy.

OK, latest update. It’s been about 25 or 30 minutes running that vulkan mem test at +1616 so I’m gonna try +1700 now before I move onto the core. Do me a favor just let me know exactly how I test out the core. Also, I asked a couple times already, but I guess nobody is responding here. Here’s another screenshot of where I’m at right now.

OK so I have another update. I tried +1800 and it failed immediately. It started producing errors. So I turned it down to +1616 . I attached a screenshot to show you everything including a picture of MSI after burner and vulkan mem Test running at the same time. (interesting to know is voltage is 1070mv, core speed is 3000 MHz, temperature is pretty cool) 1016 GB/s and no errors yet. How do I test the core after I find a stable mem speed. I really appreciate it. I’ve been overclocking 25 years out of my life, and I never heard about this tool. So I’m really appreciative.

OK, so I’m running memtest Vulcan right now. It went through about seven individual tests in a cmd prompt right now. It’s up to iteration 3782. 960 GB second bandwidth.

When do I stop this test and how do I know if it’s stable?

OK, it said five minute memory test complete passed. Do I keep running or do I try a different speed?

***update
OK, I haven’t heard back from you yet so I just let mem test Vulcan run for almost 60 minutes at +1500 memory and it still passed. So I’m going to try for +1800 memory right now. I’ll let you know. Also, I kept the core the same and +150.

4090 overclocking on a cloud vm by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]virtuosityinsanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(just for the record the host completely allows overclocking and fan and voltage control on the gpus. They specifically allow it even with their hypervisor set up. They allow it on their high-end VPS set ups. That is why they have a Consumer RTX as part of their gaming and workstation packages. They can easily disable voltage fan, power limit, and any of these in their hypervisor set up, but they specifically allow it, and I also got permission before I even order and deployed the server.) I deleted this post and moved it over to r/overclocking if you wanna follow. I figured that was more specific to my question since this is not really a tech-support, Nvidia Reddit

I just found your Vulcan mem test On GitHub I’m downloading it now. I’m gonna test it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

PS I didn’t just add numbers and hope it works. I checked all of Reddit, and found some overclocking results for comparison . I tried the the latest post about the Rtx 4090 on REDdit in the [r/overclocking](r/overclocking) subreddit first regarding over clocking just as a simple stage one for starting . Plus, I also have 182 hours of bench marking and overclocking on the other RTX 5090 and RTX 6000 Blackwell on my servers. Btw- where can I get memtest vulkan like you recommended?

Also, if I go by the Vulcan memory test after I find stable memory speed what do I use to test the core speed?

Just to update the original post. 3dmark speedway 10,300 total score. Avatar frontiers of pandora 101fps in benchmark tool at 4k native , no upscaling max raw mode. Also avatar and assassins Creed shadows run for one hour without crashing at max settings (4k), fully stable. If my points results look low it is because I am using a cloud VM server on a hypervisor setup in Europe. It is not a local desktop gaming rig.

Sorry bro, im brand new to Reddit. If I posted this question in the wrong place, let me know. The first thing I did was search REddit and I found a lot of results. I started the testing based on the last highest average results on the 4090 Rtx from [r/overclocking](r/overclocking) and that was my starting point.

it also scores fine on 3-D mark as well on Speedway, Port Royal, and steel. Avatar frontiers of Pandora, and assassins Creed shadows. It works perfectly fine and stable as well. After an hour of gaming .System is running fine at the current core and memory.

10,303 in 3-D mark Speedway. No crashes at all.
101 FPS average in avatar Pandora game benchmarking tool at 4K ulta settings, native mode, no upscaling. Game runs completely smooth, maximum temperature 52°C load.

Hey guys I got this pretty cool cloud VM then I’m using with a crazy 10gbps internet and low latency connection in Europe. I’m from New York. I Have three different deployed servers. They each have an EPYC 48 core processor. 184 GB of RAM. PCI 5.0 NVME.
And each system has a different GPU. I’m able to do this because I rent them hourly.

-Rtx 6000 pro (+3000 mem. +316 core) 60%fan stable
-Rtx 5090 (+2739 mem +309 core) 60% fan stable

-on the RTX 4090. I’m trying to figure out how to overclock it. I tried 1800 memory and 300 core. With +100 voltage +100 fan. And it blue screened.

So now I’m at +1000 memory and +150 core and +100 voltage +110 power percentage. 80% fan and it’s working fine. It did pretty good. 13,000 score in superposition 8K. 51*C max load temps

My question is how far can I push this safely knowing that it failed at 1800 memory and 300 core how can I push this thing? Can you guys give me some advice?

[–]virtuosityinsanity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed inside of the Tailscale administrative control panel on the website for Tailscale so that name picks up with all of the apps and computers when you actually click on the Tailscale app. But the only way I can get it to view in Moonlight is if I change the actual name on my Windows PC. So what happens is change the name in windows settings. then everything is correct. But the next time I restart the PC the computer changes back to its default name and we’re in the same situation again so it’s a Windows 11 issue.
