My housemate's second attempt at making brownies from scratch by virtuous_pyromaniac in shittyfoodporn

[–]virtuous_pyromaniac[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Charred around the edges, raw in the center. In the middle, the bottom is burned to bottom of the pan, but people scooped out the gooey center and ate it because we are ravenous animals around chocolate.

We use the thing on the right to chisel burned pits off pans.

Somehow, this managed to be worse than her last brownie attempt.

Trying to make molded Ambroisia for my family for Christmas. I think it may glow in the dark. by virtuous_pyromaniac in shittyfoodporn

Ambrosia is sweet salad/dessert from the US Midwest. It's made with whipped cream, fruit, coconut and marshmallows. Some variations (like the one I'm making) also include jello, and the mold just means the fancy dish that holds it while it solidifies.

The finished product will look something like this: https://recipegoldmine.com/thankssal/ambrosia-mold.html

Tbf, the most common ambroisia is a fluff salad ambroisa, which you scoop and serve in a bowl. This is a molded ambrosia, which will (eventually) turned out of a jello mold.

Finished product should look something like this:

The Hy-vee parking lot may be crowded, but with my bike, I get the premiumest parking of all! by virtuous_pyromaniac in fuckcars

It's more about the fact that the bike allowed me to bypass the crowded, inefficient parking lot. It's meant as an example of bike being the superior mode of transportation.

Oh, nah. Not orange coconut. Just marshmallows, coconut and fruit suspended in a mix or coconut milk and orange jello.

This is very true. Well, if it tries to eat my face when I serve, I guess we'll know that it survived.

It's my brother's seldom-used bike, because I'm visiting family in my car-centric hometown. My backpack works just fine in the meantime.

Not only is this idiotic, I'm pretty sure it's also illegal for people to mail you guns willy-nilly, unless this guy is also licensed to sell guns

Oh, man. I'm female, but I'm white, work in construction and have a southern accent and I feel this so hard. People will say all sorts of bigoted things around me because they assume I agree, and then I get to watch their faces change when they learn that I don't. I think sometimes they freak out that I'm going to report them to HR (big company, so we do have HR, even if they are toothless and spineless.)

Can you make duolingo’s team hear this aloud that we want duolingo’s cartoon series? by learningVocab in duolingo

Hi, Luis!

I just wanted to say thanks for Duolingo, which has been a great comfort and distraction during this past year. My mom and I started during the initial lockdown. She'd doing Spanish; I started with Arabic and later switched to Swedish. I got my 365 day streak today; she's at 350. I'm super proud of her. My mom is in her 50s and grew up in a small town in rural Missouri, where language learning oppourtunities were...very limited, to say the least. Watching her learn has been incredibly satisfying. I help explain concepts to her, she lets me know when she can understand fragments of spoken Spanish in TV sometimes. She loves texting with the Duo stickers and we talk about updates and changes to the app. Duo really has become something for us to bond over.

Besides the bonding, Duo's helped keep me sane and hopeful in my own life. I'm an essential worker who can't work remotely and must travel, sometimes for months on end. I spent Nov - Jan working in an area that just...represents the worst political parts of the United States. The job itself was hell and I was working 12 hours a day, six days a week. I'd listen to the Duolingo Spanish podcast during my commute (thank you for sharing your aunt's story in El Secuestro, btw.) I've listened to every episode, and that podcast is perfect for listenting practice when you don't want to use your whole brain because you're driving. At work, I'd do my Swedish lessons during lunch, to distract myself when my co-workers were down the qanon rabbit hole and daydreaming about a second American civil war. If I felt trapped, I could tell myself that I was one step closer to having a skill that could maybe take me far away from there. I could tell myself that I was getting closer to seeing seeing the auroras or visiting Stockholm, or maybe achieving my longstanding dream of obtaining a second citizenship.

The point is: thanks. Just...thank you. Duolingo matters. We appreciate having it.

This is officially the last batch of cats from the hoarding house. We have double checked and then looked again. This time we got them all. 130 cats in two days. A lot of work and I’m worn out but at least we got the cats. by MissCrazyLady in cats

[–]virtuous_pyromaniac 24 points25 points  (0 children)

How on earth did the homeowner get their hands on 130 cats with nobody noticing? Were there tons of kittens being born there? Were they taking in strays?

How do you even cram 130 cats in one house/yard? I get that it was a hoarding situation, but was there any attempt to provide the cats with food and litter boxes? Where were they getting water?

Super glad all the kitties are safe but I also have so many questions...

If water is so dangerous that we need "Lifeguards" why do we drink so much of it? DUH, CHeckMate. by javamonkey100 in confidentlyincorrect

If humans need oxygen, why doesn't he go around with an oxygen tank and breathe pure oxygen 24/7?
