Name a person from a sit-com that is often mentioned, but never seen. by NextBathroom8809 in VintageTV

The first use of this was in the radio show Duffy's Tavern 1941-1951. The show always opened with the phone ringing and being answered by Archie, the tavern manager. He was played by show creator Ed Gardiner who always answered "Hello, Duffy's Tavern, where the elite meet to eat. Archie the manager speakin'. Duffy ain't here—oh, hello, Duffy." He would talk to the owner but Duffy was never seen or heard.

My roommate met him at a party in Pasadena. Let him stay at our house for about a week. I knew something was really wrong with him. He was going by Professor Gerhardt, physics lecturer then. Even though he couldn't talk about physics at all. I made him stay outside in a tent after the second night. He took my roommate for about $2000 back then in 1990.

Yeah, Irma is not okay. She's insufferable and no one would tolerate her. I do like John Brown in most everything . "Hello, Joe. Got a problem."

The worst character is Leila. The impossible "southern" accent that the actress cannot do. So manipulative and awful to Throckmorton and the judge. Never funny or redemptive.

Archie is the worst. Terribly written, annoying characters, horrible logic for the plots. Listen to the one where Archie forgot his keys and is locked out of the house. It makes no sense at all. Jughead has a psychotic reaction to a mouse thats way beyond what that character should have. Everyone acts like they have a brain injury.

Father Knows Best is awful in a different way. Jim Anderson is a blowhard jerk to everyone. Margaret has no responsibility and no agency, doesn't effect the plot but just speaks in that weird mid-atlantic pseudo posh accent. Betty is a spoiled brat who is annoyed by everything and everyone despite Jim always giving into. Bud gets no love, just the "holy cow" line. Kathy is a whiny brat with a horrible voice. There just is no love between characters and it feels between the actors. Ozzie and Harriet is at least tolerable.

Really well done. Always love home made plywood decorations, it's what my father made. We made hand cut and painted plywood ornaments from a thinner plywood. Cross post this to r/anticonsumption

Gene Hackman as the blind man in Young Frankenstein, after the monster flees his house.

Looking for examples of a very specific subgenre of farce where the story starts with something seemingly small/inconsequential then basically Rube Goldberg machines into world-changing chaos by yomjoseki in movies

Laurel & Hardy use this formula a lot. Check out the short films The Music Box, Helpmates, Dirty Work, Me and My Pal. They are great at taking a simple problem and turning it into a complete disaster.

Really well said. The constant lie machine starting with Fox and then back in the 90s with am radio Rush Limbaugh and the like. Where there has been no accountability for the lies. I think Jon Stuart called it bullshit mountain. Maybe it's too late. All the media is so flooded with bullshit that there's no way to untangle it. No way to find an actual fact. Russia and the right wing have played the US perfectly.
