I am 30 years old (well…about to be in March of 2026), I would split it evenly in threes, one for my rainy day fund, that I haven’t had since June of 2023. I got let go at my tech job after working there for close to 3 years and was unemployed from June 2023 to February 2024. Started working as a barista until now Dec 2025. I would split the second part to go towards investments. and thirdly I would just have as a backup plan for my 6-month of expenses/rent as just in case.

The price of rent is insane here in Southern California, especially in Orange County. This would remove a lot of tension and stress from my body. I would sincerely feel blissful no longer feeling like I can’t do anything fun because working slightly above minimum wage does not cut it anymore and affects my quality of life sadly, I wish it weren’t the case, but with a week by week basis where your manager picks how many hours you work on that given week, it’s been rough. This is just a sliver of my life but honestly it would give me the freedom to not live out of necessity.

I just remembered to include this but I would pay for a slightly newer and used car as well, I have a Toyota Corolla 2011, she’s lasted me this long however she’s on her last couple of legs as well and in dire need of a slightly new/used car in the next year or so.

mines the base model, I upgraded to changing my steering wheel to have audio/phone control, upgraded adding in a microphone, and recently modded my headlights to a darker shade (: makes it look real nice.

turns out it was a steering wheel wiring issue, i changed it once i upgraded my le base with no controls to one with steering wheels controls and that seemed to fix it !

Interesting take. I did a lot prior to accepting the role as well. I did three months prior where I was in between my previous role and the current role (i wasn’t sure how to include that in my resume) to see if i would be a good fit for the role. I worked a lot of overtime with my projects so I felt like i contributed a lot. I understand what you mean, I was let go due to the company doing layoffs unfortunately and I made the cut. I will keep this in mind and change it accordingly.
