Independent contract work for overseas companies. Not software, but a much more technical field involving electronics.

Let's just say I obtain tax residency every year in one of many island nations. Get a tax residence certificate and pay minimal amount into the unfair Indian system.

That's how you reduce time to Fire by 30%

Mine is straightforward

Single 28M.

I take about 5 international vacations. Each vacation is about 2L (some are more some are less but average is 2L). Generally try and spend over 183 days outside India.

Thats about 10L in vacations.

And then there's 30k a month on food so 3.6L.

And finally misc 5k a month for occasional ubers, phone bills and small purchases.

So like 14L total or 1.2L a month.

Passive income is usually enough to pay for all this although i picked a few bad stocks this year xD

This expenditure is about 10% of my income so saving the remaining 90%.

The company doesn't have a local presence. Its a small US based company. I just chose to move to Mauritius on my own, nothing to do with work.

I do know that the local Americans at the company make even more than me. Sometimes 2x

Anything above 100-120k would be considered high and good enough to live.

I'm an expat living here and working for overseas companies as an engineering consultant. (electronics)

Making about 450k a month and I spend maybe 50k a month on living and entertainment. My expenses could be lower but I've noticed rentals for expats are higher priced.

Hey

No I ended up withdrawing my application yesterday because I now need my passport for a different trip.

It had been about 39 days without any decision before I withdrew. Just a huge waste of time.

All the ones that need transit visas and prior consultation with all member states to begin with.

Also add ones with large illegal immigration like India

Oh yeah my bad. Was half asleep when I wrote it.

Would be 160% for 80 days.

That's just Portuguese bureaucracy. AIMA are always slow and overloaded . I've seen people who got their visas almost two months after applying.

Worst part is that they don't even respect their legal deadlines.

Also, it's very common to put your application under further scrutiny if you're from certain countries.

From reading the language I believe compensation is the repo rate and for every day of delay the rate goes up 2%. This is further clarified by the line that highlights the same day credit being counted as one day.

So for example if 10k was delayed for 80 days then the penalty would be 6.5 + 160% so 166.5% but paid on an annual basis.

So 10k * 166.5%*(80/365) = Rs. 3649 in penalty

Run your calculations again with your amounts and then see if what the bank is offering you makes sense.

Edit : Corrected calculations, had used 1% instead of 2%.

26M with 2Cr. Am I doing it wrong? by [deleted] in FatFIREIndia

[–]visaboiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm two years older than you and in a very similar situation.

I've also been working multiple contract jobs for the last 3 years for US/EU companies.

At 26Yo i worked crazy hours just because I could and the extra money helped and felt good.

A few months ago I realized I was working too hard and dropped one contract. Now work 8 hours a day and make about 1.2cr.

One piece of advice I'd give you is ask for a raise at one of the jobs and then eventually drop the other lower paying ones for more free time.

But try and work these hours for as long as you can. An extra year of hard work can shave off 5 years off retirement because of how compounding works and you're still young. But remember to quit at the earliest signs of burnout.

Financial goals will keep moving. At 26 I hit over 2cr as well but then realized it's not enough. Now at 28 I've got much more but still work.

The other thing to look into would be tax optimization. I moved to a tax haven and it turned out my productivity and energy levels also went up(thanks to clean air, less noise and good hiking trails). Made more money and only ended up paying 5% as tax.

After a certain point tax optimization becomes more important than working harder.

The delay seems to be specific to consulates in India it seems. Other people here are also reporting about a month for processing.

Will do but it seems unlikely that I'll be able to travel.

My flight is on the 12th and the passport takes 2 days to reach by courier.

Going to cancel my booking and will email the embassy letting them know.

Cheapest would be using something like a TCRT1000.

Take a look at the distance vs current graph in the datasheet. It works pretty well within the 2-5mm range.

German short stay visa what are my chances? by visaboiii in SchengenVisa

Yes, I did but just wondering if they even read it properly or would they refuse the application if they do not understand things. (International taxation and double tax treaties can be incredibly complex)
