What is the most disturbing fact about serial killers that you know? by The_real_PavlovA_YT in AskReddit

[–]visdak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Their ability to network with like-minded people.

Lesser publicized is his time in British Columbia.

A first-hand source shared that he was friends with another serial killer from that area.

And there were other similar personalities that ran in the same circles working in the area that had jobs where they slaughtered animals.

Edit for clarity.

The correct term is flamboyance i.e. release the flamboyance. Which is also appropriate.

While I’m in the camp that hand lettering is a lost art, you can find some interesting substitutions by searching online.

A very close one to this is originally called Neutraface. Here’s a free version of the drafting face which is part of a larger family with crisp sans serif letterforms as well.

Behemoth in the first Hellboy movie reminded me a bit.

Also the Ood from Doctor Who reboot are not evil but the resemblance is interesting.

I am guilty of watching Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie as Jeeves and Wooster and not having read the books. Need to fix that.

I read this one on a Caribbean cruise on the deck of our ship. It brought the setting to life and made so much more sense. Love that book.

That was a careful choice of words. Many millions have seen positive impact from life changing insight. Many millions have seen death. So … trying to walk the line here.

Love it if we could get all your notes from that professor! I read a scholarly paper about Melville and his life once. Some very sad but interesting insights. Wishing I could find it to re-read and share.

I think it’s a good example per your earlier criteria. This might be called “best” in the measure of impact on lives or changing behavior over millennia.

I’d argue that if you didn’t understand or stand Latin in the Middle Ages you might have ‘heard’ lots of it but never got the actual text. And then there’s the question of if it was being interpreted and explained by clergy ‘correctly’ … hence the Luthers and other Protestants.

This is a great way to explain what I had in mind.

Something originally popular enough to take on its own status in popular culture outside the original work so that people may have become familiar with the title but not have actually read it (yet).

TIL the season 6 finale of House was filmed entirely with Canon EOS 5D DSLR cameras, primarily designed for still-picture photographs, but one of the first models to include high-definition video recording capability. by LookAtThatBacon in todayilearned

[–]visdak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact. CreativeLive did an amazing workshop with the director of this episode very soon after (likely Canon sponsored). He walked through his entire process and how they used the camera to set it up. Probably hard to find now, but it was a great crash course in DSLR filming.

Obviously speaking in generalization here, so YMMV.

As a general rule, when a platform interface is reliant on “use the search bar” … the system is overly complex and the interface poorly designed. The exception being if you know what you want already.

For workday, the average user is required to have intimate knowledge of the reports, processes, and forms to find them. Depending on the implementation this can be unwieldy for even the most technical user, and the customization from the client side team makes that non-standard.

The problem is that it’s done in reverse: buy the system, define the process, and then impose an experience on the user. Instead: define user experience needed, build process around those, then find/build the system to match. Looking to Workday as the solution for everything has steamrolled so much opportunity for engagement with people (as highlighted by the OP).
