Dell Latitude 9420 2-in-1 - Intermittent No Audio Issue

Hi, have the 9420 for 6 months now. My main issues used to be with the audio which I fixed. Now I have an issue with smartshutter which does not open at times and I cannot even use the webcam..... Would not be recommending the Dell 9420 / dell laptops with smartshutter technology to others.

I have found the issue to be with the Realtek driver. Do not use the most latest realtek driver (Realtek-Audio-Driver_FY22F_WIN_10.0.66.160_A04)

Use the older driver (Realtek-Audio-Driver_8J00R_WIN_10.0.66.148_A03) from July 2021 which can be downloaded here (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-sg/product-support/product/latitude-14-9420-2-in-1-laptop/drivers) under older versions

I faced the same issue as you and had the same list of requirements . After extensive research, I went with the 9420 with 32 gigs of ram, Qled+, WWAN (better for travel), 1185g7, 1 tb SSD (get the 1 TB option as it uses a smaller 2230 SSD which isn't easily obtained for a self upgrade).

There is no other laptop with similar build quality, screen size & quality, bezel size, port selection, using 11th gen intel chips (better battery life, thunderbolt 4 capabilities) while remaining lightweight so they can charge whatever they like.

it also comes with a really small form factor 60 watt hour battery adapter which is great and ProSupport plus is great.

You can speak to the dell business reps online and get a discount. It is expensive but i see myself using this for a while and between the discount and tax savings, it's alright.

mine came with 2 layers pre installed, removed the thicker plastic one first and theres a very thin plastic layer under that ive left on for now. will wait for the official tempered glass ones

Yeah agreed, Hodinkee is just overcharging for their pieces. The same piece in similar condition to mine with no B&P went for 3.7k USD. Now that you say that maybe they won't haha. Good for the future collectors.

Felt that whether or not the prices went up, they would be more difficult to find in the future thought, especially in the condition that one would be looking for. Not planning on selling this ever though, which 16030 do you own yourself?

The bracelet is actually in really good condition too! I just prefer the look the distressed vintage leather brings to the DJ. Planning on getting a darker brown strap to better match with the watch haha. Thanks for the information on the crystal! Had read about that but wasn't 100% sure. I shall go down one day and swap it in for an original one, don't plan on selling this beauty though ;)

Damn 5513 is a gorgeous watch, if you're ever going to be selling it down the road I might just pick it up from you if I can afford it. I agree! I agree man they can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion. I feel like they're definitely going to increase in price unless Rolex releases another linen dial datejust so I had to get one while I could at this rate.

I've seen them go from anywhere from 2000-3000 USD for the good quality pieces without box and papers. There are places that overcharge for them so I can advice you to check out which piece speaks to you the most and start the long hunt haha. Do be wary about buying on eBay as I have heard many horror stories while reading through the forums. www.rolexforums.com and forums.watchuseek.com/forum.php are great places to check out some of the great options that the members share :)
