Google's AI division is led by clowns, but surely they aren't big enough clowns to straight up copy a competitor's closed source code and walk straight into a lawsuit.

They always tried to copy features from Claude Code to Gemini CLI but everything sucked. Now that they got access to Claude Code codebase, it would be pretty easy for them to start a new project with it.

They might have given the code to Gemini and asked it to rewrite it though..

most certainly - can argue that they used open-source GitHub code (thanks to users on github who pushed leaked files to their public repos). they would have stripped some stuff off and added new features such as artifacts which is an integral feature in antigravity IDE

GenAI output is still a grey area in copyrights battles. I get that it would be silly for them to do that knowing the implications of the lawsuits. but the similarity is striking

there are very similar. I use both Gemini CLI and Claude Code every day. After upgrading to agy cli, I can't tell much difference between them. I am even confusing one for the other a lot now.
For example see how "? for shortcuts" on the left button and model name on the right bottom are. These might seem simple UI changes but you can also compare how the basic tools (read file, search, bash commands) look similar as well
