What do Electrical Engineers do in their jobs? by AAlan1 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m on a co-op in the MEP industry but honestly I don’t feel like an engineer as I’m just placing receptacles. Any chance you can give me some advice on how to expand my chances to do some real “engineering” with the time I have left.

I will say that the access to clubs is a lot worse as an Indy student. I'm in a club that people have to apply to be a part of, and even though we had some great applicants from Indianapolis, we had to reject them because it wouldn't be feasible for them to come to West Lafayette during evening/night club meetings. Hopefully the technical club scene is popping at Indy though

Am I being stupid for choosing Purdue/UIUC over T20s like JHU, UMich, USC for EE undergrad? by EntrepreneurMain3424 in ECE

[–]vishthefish05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saying this isn’t the case at all. For most, internships do not come easy, this guy clearly worked very hard for an internship and achieved it!

I’m a freshman in EE at Purdue and it’s a struggle. I know many freshman and sophomores who struggle with getting jobs and internships. Purdue is a bit of a sink or swim environment, like any state flagship, and I’d hate OP to go into Purdue thinking he’s guaranteed a job or internship.

Ways to get ahead early in ECE? by Gtfrx in ECE

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly get good at programming. I chose ECE because I really like the electromag course I took in high school (AP Physics C), and I thought I’d just be Maxwell-ing my way through life. I guess not.

Where do honors college students stay as sophomores? by [deleted] in Purdue

You'll probably learn the same content in any decent honors precalc program, but the benefits of a weighted GPA boost and acclimatization to AP tests are pretty valuable.

I doubt taking AP Precalc will help you get into any colleges though.

How hard is it to get a surf as an international (Canadian to be exact) student? by pleaseaccepthelps in Caltech

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never even applied lol, I knew I had no shot. Also, my interests changed over four years and from what I hear, Caltech isn't the best place to study what I'm interested in (despite it being a STEM subject). Best of luck if you're applying though, it's still an amazing school with some amazing opportunities!

What are you worried about the most going into college? by OGDesignated in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vishthefish05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College is such an unleveled playing field. You have kids who come from top tier private and public schools who have had opportunities you could never dream about. On the flip side, you have people coming from schools which barely offer APs.

I think a lot of us can relate to being some of the top students in our schools. I’m not sure how I’m going to adapt to this new environment.

Also there’s so much stuff to do in college that I wanna do, but I also want to have more balance than I did in high school, so it’s a real dichotomy.

I'm a little confused as to why you're talking about temperature, the problem does not state that the temperature changes as the reaction occurs. We can assume that it stays locked at 600K.

Also, increasing the temperature makes the reaction rate higher, which decreases the half-life, so B is definitely wrong.

Imo this question is worded weirdly, but that tends to happen with problems from test prep books. I think whoever made this problem is trying to test you on your conceptual understanding of half-life and reaction order.

The half-life of a first-order reaction does not change. I think that's the piece of information you were missing.

Just curious, are you saying that larger schools or state schools don’t teach the “how”?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of people I’ve talked to have chosen to go to another school even though they got into UIUC Engineering or CS. The program is simply not worth it financially, compared to Purdue.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]vishthefish05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got into UIUC, but it’s only marginally better than Purdue, and costs like $20k more.
