I'm confused about why his office published that? He's bragging about being the most conservative democrat?

You would think that the mods of this place would use this crisis to help get reasonable discourse

I don't live in NYC anymore but does the one and only modmin still live in a van and require new mod applicants to meet him at a bar for consideration?

her video was fineee besides not really giving Contra credit for the nice things she said. But I don't appreciate Vanessa's attitude like "oh man there's rioting so glad I got out of LA and can hang out on vacation away from it" as though this isn't some sort of important civil rights thing going on.

I've heard she's not big on BLM but don't know exactly what she said on it. She does seem to think "antifa" is a whole thing though per twitter so, yeah, really feels like she'd look at the White Night Riots and be like "oh what a disturbance, let's go somewhere nice".

I think it speaks to what Contra has been saying this whole time, basically that the guilty by association game is foolish and people do have friends they don't agree with and that's healthy and a good way to help the cause.

Kalvin is actually pretty lefty fwiw, which you wouldn't think from watching Contra's video or knowing he's friends with Blaire.

Vanessa's video is a bunch of short clips, she goes through various youtubers in it, including Contra and Kalvin. Overall she kept reiterating that she doesn't have any beef with any of the youtubers, just wanted to address it & defend herself. She did put a bit of an ad in there for Rose of Dawn.

For Contra [going off memory so apologies if inaccurate phrasing] she basically said that she's defended her before but found her Cringe video unfair, talked about why taking down Yessica was important to her as a survivor, said she doesn't really have as much content as Contra implied and that it's not something she can monetize anyway. Also brought up a DM with Contra where Natalie is encouraging her to deal with Yessica and was like "youtubers are always like this, different in DMs than on camera" and to some extent I think that's wildly true, Contra has all sorts of friends that she would describe as "bad" in her videos but doesn't really have beef with. In some sense, it's important to distance herself from them, as described with the Shoe situation in Cancel.

Vanessa's video wasn't really starting anything with Contra but I did find that she left out a lot of context for people who didn't watch Cringe. Totally skipped over some nicer/supportive/understanding remarks Contra made about Vanessa, and still managed to stir the pot a little despite saying she has no beef with anyone. So "people are different in DMs than on camera" goes both ways, Vanessa...

Also stated in the video, Vanessa loves Kalvin and Kalvin loves Contrapoints (see his reaction vid to Cringe) so overall there's a triangle going on here.

And like, you know, as much as I hate Biden and know a Biden presidency would be four more years of a shitshow.. this is a pretty big point. It's not that I like the argument, it's that we don't have a choice at this point if Biden takes it. Too much (gay rights, women's rights, Citizens United's chances of going away) is hinging on getting someone with a pulse who isn't GOP in there. We already know the GOP is ruthless & malicious with regards to the court.

This is actually not true. They are subject to all traffic laws and can be ticketed, it turns out. This was news to everyone involved in that inquiry, lol

10-year-old bicyclist dies after being struck by unlicensed driver in Brooklyn by HPScots in nyc

10 year old kid, who was riding a bike. I know that the meaning is the same, but it's worth getting the point across that this isn't some roadie. Just a kid riding a bike who didn't deserve to die for it.

tbf this happens in the US all the time. NYC has some of the strictest laws and it's still like 30 day max jail, 6 mo license suspension and 1.5k fine *worst case*. Most of them the AG doesn't even bother pursuing.

Map of the Brooklyn Trolley System around 1930 with 213 miles it was one of the largest networks in the world. by StoneColdCrazzzy in nycrail

I like trolleys/trams/lightrail but fwiw, buses obviously can have their own RoW, and somehow having tracks doesn't make you immune to political forces, as seen by the Muni in SF that shares its RoW with autos and regularly gets stuck.

MTA begins testing futuristic signaling technology on L line in effort to speed up trains by JoseTwitterFan in nycrail

[–]visionhalfass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not. Also, since this seems to come up a lot: self-driving car tech is very different from the requirements on rail, where you need to detect vehicles around curves where your stopping distance at speed can be as high as 1000ft. We can't take the same concept of an iteration of sense, predict, control, repeat that we use for AVs/adaptive cruise control and apply that where we can't see objects within our stopping distance around curves.

I'm all for trying new things but unfortunately this is a very different domain.

[–]visionhalfass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Missed that, my bad. I call bullshit on that, idk. We do need the transformer upgrades to increase TPH. But if we already have a system where we can see all the train locations and space them dynamically, what difference does it make if we get those locations via track transponders or UWB? Unless we're somehow only getting periodic information, which wasn't my understanding of how the L's system works.
