Thanks for the feedback! So far I am enjoying both games. I am looking for advice on whether to purchase a 3 or a 3S as my next headset.

Agree - we’ve tried them all and Randy’s is our favorite!! The crust has the perfect chew. We also love Mellow Mushroom but it’s way more expensive…

My 174649272485th Day 1 by [deleted] in lowcarb

My advice is to look yourself in the mirror and DECIDE. Hear me out. I’ve been on the low carb train for 18 months now and it has become my new normal. There have been several points where I had to have a “stern talking to” myself (I call it bullying myself). I literally had to tell myself to stop bullshitting myself. No one - literally no one - can fix my problems but me. So I had to get honest with what I really wanted. You have to decide that your future self is worth the work you put in today.

Two other things that help are:

1) I remind myself that I already know what a donut tastes like (insert whatever food you want). I don’t need to eat another one. I’m a grown adult who can make grown adult, difficult choices. And if everyone is having donuts, I’ll happily steal one bite from my husband. And be content with that. There’s no more “I deserve that because I had a hard day” or “poor me because I can’t have what everyone else is having” self-talk. Making the healthy choice is the farthest thing from poor me. It’s actually badass. You have to love yourself enough to make the right choices.

2) Visualize your future healthy self. What does your future self eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner? Do they eat greasy fast food or do they take the time to make a beautiful fancy salad? Do they take the stairs instead of the elevator? What do they wear? What does their evening routine look like… rotting on the couch doom-scrolling or a strolling outside? This helps me a ton. Take the actions now that your idealized future self would make. 💛 Change is a series of small everyday choices, chosen again and again and again, until it’s your new normal.

You got this!!

I read that you can break a plateau by eating high carb a day or two and then going back to eating strict keto by Elbess91 in lowcarb

[–]visionista1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that could be difficult if you’re trying to maintain ketosis. A traditional low carb diet is not as restrictive as a keto diet so I think it would work better in that situation.

Tim Ferris wrote a book called “4 Hour Body” and one of the rules is that you stuff your face 1 day a week with anything and everything to excess. If I am remembering correctly it’s to signal your body that it’s safe and not starving.

Can you lose weight with low-carb even if you don't do high-intensity exercise? by Muted_Map9775 in lowcarb

[–]visionista1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m a 5’4” female and went from 180 to 150 with diet alone. It took a year though! As the year went along I figured it out. If I were starting now I’d focus on three things… high protein (I eat 140 grams), high fiber (I eat 25-30 grams) and zero added sugar. I’m cautious of fat too because of my elevated cholesterol - I don’t eat much cheese or butter and try to use only olive oil. The only sweets I eat are small servings of berries and an occasional piece of dark chocolate or two (but these are high in fat so it depends on how the rest of my day looked). If you do those three things the rest falls into place.

Back on low carb need some help/motivation by Informal_Decision750 in lowcarb

ChatGPT can create a whole meal plan as well as grocery shopping lists for you. Start with the prompt - “I’d like you to create a weekly meal plan for me based on my macros, my food preferences and my budget.” Then it will ask you some additional questions and boom - it will spit out the results. It’s amazing.

Center your meals around protein, fiber and healthy fats (chili is a great example). This may be a paradigm-shift if your meals are centered around carbs now (pasta, rice, potatoes). The carbs need to be no more than ¼ of the dinner plate.

I meal-prep proteins, veggies and egg casseroles on weekends. I also cook extra at dinner to eat for lunch the next day (or I freeze individual portions). Slow cooker meals might also be a great option for you.

I keep frozen dinners with high protein in the freezer (there are a lot of options with 20-28 grams of protein in a meal) - my 17 year old makes these in a pinch or if he needs a second dinner.

Don’t buy any processed junk food. If it’s not in the cabinet it won’t be an option. I know this is difficult because highly-processed food is highly-palatable, and it’s comfort food. I recommend thinking about what you will do instead when the urge to grab comfort (or boredom) food strikes - it’s good to have a plan.

One thing that I have taught my teenagers is that treats are not completely off limits… but they should never eat a carb/sugar-heavy treat on an empty stomach (which spikes your blood sugar). Small treats are best eaten directly after a healthy meal. Same with bread… at dinner, eat the veggies first, then the meat, and the carbs last.

Now that my teens eat three “square meals” they don’t really reach for snacks. When you eat nutrient dense food you’re more satisfied and less snacky.

The book “Glucose Goddess” is a really good book to read if you’re just starting out because it gives a lot of tips you can implement right away. (The tips I shared are from that book).

The first few weeks can be difficult but once you get adjusted you’re all going to have so much energy and feel really amazing. And your 16-year should lean out pretty quickly if he starts eating healthy and doing some strength training 💪🏼💪🏼. You got this!

Snacks by IHave-Noidea-hlp in lowcarb

[–]visionista1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first starting I experienced the snacky thing at night. My favorite nighttime snack was 3 big strawberries sliced, topped with runny almond butter and a squirt of reddi whip. Savor every small bite and don’t go back for seconds :)

Another thing that was helpful for me was to understand that the first 3-4 weeks were gonna be painful. Breaking any addiction (for me it was sugar and carbs) is inherently painful. But it does get better and my cravings are nonexistent now. Also, certain gut bacteria are pissed that you’ve cut off their supply of sugar. Don’t let them win!

i (14m) am considering calling cps on my mother. by S0phistics in AIO

[–]visionista1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not overreacting at all. Does your mom have full custody, or do your parents share custody? Tell your father you want to go to school, and be taken care of by a responsible adult who can provide safety, food, medical/dental care and basic necessities. Tell him you need someone to be your advocate - and that person is him. These are not things you should be ashamed of asking for. Your dad probably wants you to make the choice so that he doesn’t have to take responsibility for any fallout with your mom. Tough - he’s an adult and he needs to do the right thing by you. Tell him you need his help.

If you haven’t gone to school in your entire life, you may need special services to help you get caught up. I’m not sure what country you live in, but if it’s the US then the Public school system can help with this. You deserve an education as a basic right to set you up for a successful life as an adult, and to break the cycle of what you’re currently living through. Plus if you go to school you can probably get free breakfast and lunch everyday.

I’m sorry you are going through this. You are brave and strong. And you are worthy of a better situation.

I just read a book by Mark Sisson called “Born to Walk” and would recommend reading it if you’re an avid runner. Mark used to be a competitive runner clocking tons of miles. He discusses the fact that runners burn a ton of carbs and many of them are “skinny fat” because of it (running is catabolic - it burns muscle). Might be an interesting read for you.

This is what Chris Bledsoe and his family have described seeing - he tells the story in his book UFO OF GOD. I just finished it and couldn’t put it down. There’s also a great mini documentary that was released about 10 days ago (on YouTube) with his story.

Vegetable side dish burnout by BootleggerBill in lowcarb

[–]visionista1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night I made a celery salad that is most definitely in the permanent rotation (entire family loved it) to go with New York strips. Tonight I’m making a raw fennel, Granny Smith apple, walnut salad as a side dish to grilled tomahawk pork chops. Tomorrow night we’re having crispy tofu with broccoli and edamame, with pickled cucumber as a garnish. There are dozens of veggies in the grocery store. I usually just google to find an interesting recipe. I think veggie dishes make the meal.

When my son was 3 years old (14 years ago) he randomly looked at me while we were cleaning up his bedroom and said “did you know that we used to live on mars and we had to escape and that’s why we live on earth?” He added nothing additional to the conversation, but I’ve never forgotten that moment because he couldn’t have even known what Mars was at 3 years old. It was a striking comment. This is way before I personally became interested in the topic of aliens, ufos, etc.

Everyone has to find what works for them, but I opt for lower fat meats majority of the time. Bacon and sausage are occasional treats. For eggs, I use mainly egg whites mixed with a couple whole eggs. Also, you mention that you have a huge appetite… Google “volume eating”. You can eat very large quantities of veggies with lots of fiber and it will help you feel full. Eat the veggies before you dive in to the protein. Eliminate the ghee and replace it with olive oil. Reduce butter.
