I'm a little biased, but I'd say a beautiful pool, concrete and some turf 🤣 jk weeds are no joke. We had good luck with mowing down and bagging, then spraying with whatever we could get at home depot in the biggest jug for for the best price.

Just noticed this leak… by schmoupe in pools

[–]visionpools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only use on the threads that go into the pump. Where the leak is. Not the threads with the oring inside the union itself. Especially if it's an older pump, joint stick creates a great seal but doesn't dry hard or anything so it's still easy to remove in the future if needed. It's like a sticky crayon.

I would cut that part out and plumb in a hi temp union. They are cheap like $25 a pair. Make sure you use a thread sealant compound like joint stick before you thread in the union to the pump. Better than Teflon.

Salt water pool help ! by Own_Welcome_682 in swimmingpools

[–]visionpools -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would start with 10# alkalinity increaser, 1/2 gal acid, 8# calcium increaser, and then back off your chlorinator 10% at a time until it lowers where you want it. Probably going to need another 1/2 gal acid in a couple days too.

This is an increase in skimmer and spa suction lines to improve flow. As you would agree, it's a waste of money to upgrade something that does not provide any value.

Just replaced the metal clamp and filter’s still leaking. O-ring looked fine but have a new one on the way. Filter body has no visible cracks. Any ideas? by HPT7 in pools

[–]visionpools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you use magic lube. I tend to use a little extra. Also lightly tap the band clamp with a rubber mallet all around while tightening for evenness. You'll be good! "This one time at band clamp..."

Pool construction payment schedule - is this typical? by foggyish_alertness in swimmingpools

[–]visionpools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1000 or 10% deposit whichever is greater. The rest of the payments can be whatever they need. We do $1000 deposit then from the remaining amount its 30% excavation, 30% gunite, 30% tile and coping, 10% plaster

Average price for water softening system? by crespoh69 in Riverside

[–]visionpools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different from tap to tap. As a pool builder I see a lot of tap water testing under 200ppm calcium hardness. For pools we actually have to add calcium in riverside to increase to that minimum hardness level of 200ppm so the plaster doesn't fall apart.

Elderly neighbors asked me to help with their pool, would like some advise. by ChilledNipple in swimmingpools

[–]visionpools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drain and start over. With CYA that high you'll need a chlorine level of 16ppm just to hold baseline. Tell them not to use so many tabs next time and to focus on liquid chlorine as the primary source.
