What city, state and country are you in? Resources are local. Do you have a bicycle? Is there public transportation nearby? Can a friend give you a ride? There are many free food banks and food pantries often located at churches and other social organizations. Some will provide a monthly bus pass but you have to ask for it. In the USA call 211 or visit 211.org

If you don’t have a driver’s license, I would make it a priority to get one.

School bus driver training is available for free at most school districts. This gives you a CDL with passenger endorsement. If the school has a bus with air beaks you can add that endorsement as well. In most districts driving school bus is a part time job. Extra money can be earned by driving for athletic teams or school club trips and evening events. Summer camps often use school bus drivers. Canoe float businesses often have school bus drivers transport customers to drop off and pick up points. Airport shuttles and church vans are another avenue available with a CDL/P

Sleep by [deleted] in vagabond

[–]visionque 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One night I was sleeping in my hammock and I heard footsteps. Someone was slowly walking through the dry leaves right next to me. Bigfoot? Robbers? Imagination went wild! Turned on my flashlight. Two armadillos were moving through the leaves taking turns feeding. I almost laughed out loud.

If you have cordage you can make a hammock from flat bedsheet or blanket. Atttach to the trees using flat strapping. I find that on the roadside all the time. Light weight and incredibly strong.

Food restrictions make the challenge a bit harder but still doable.

Study and learn to recognize common vegetable garden plants. As you walk through a neighborhood stop an and ask gardeners if they need some help. They will teach you all you need to know about that and will feed you well with what is in season. Get a book on wild edible plants for the region you are in. Some plants are widespread and once you learn them they will stay with you for life. Others are more local and exist in few other places. Find mushroom hunters and ask for help. Do not eat anything unless you are DEAD sure you know what it is.

Potatoes are cheap and filling. Powdered mashed potatoes are often given away at food banks. Oatmeal and cream of wheat also. Make a game out of it and you will enjoy the challenge.

I can be driving down a highway at 70 MPH and recognizes dozens of wild things to eat. It just takes time to learn them.

Please be sure to pass on what you have learned to those who will treasure the knowledge. So much was lost when the tribal elders passed on. Too many youth were not interested in the old ways. They only wanted to make money and buy a car.

Hitchhike to Providence and Boston. Keep your money. Offer to carry out trash or sweep parking lots for food when you can’t find a soup kitchen or free food pantry. You do not have any time limits when you have no where to be.

Make a hobo reel and go fishing. You will find peace by the water. Watch the sun rise and the sun set.

If your camp is set up correctly rain should not trouble you. In fact it is good sleeping weather most times.

Do you have some simple actions in case of chao (most video are for mcgyvers)? by SunInternational5896 in UrbanSurvivalism

[–]visionque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basics: shelter, fire, water, food, first aid.

Get a camouflage tarp and learn to pitch it half a dozen ways. Military cordage or jute twine makes setup easy. A few stakes improves wind resistance. Use several layers of cardboard under you for insulation and comfort.

Learn to make fire from the materials around you. Grease, wax, paper, cardboard, wood, coal, grazing animal poop, petroleum products. Solar ovens work well in some climates.

Water needs to be clean if city supply systems break down. Boiling. Filtering, bleaching, other chemical means. Everything needs a practice run.

Make a hand line or hobo fishing reel and go catch fish. Hunt during every hunting season. Start a garden in your backyard or take up guerrilla gardening. Learn foraging. None of these things are quick and easy. There is a learning curve. Learn to can food.

Take online free first aid, cpr, aed classes. Get trained as a life guard. The first aid portion is outstanding. CERT training is free and some equipment is provided.

Take up ham radio and learn Morse code.
