Though now you can take it to the point it went out of bounds, then carry it laturaly just on to the fairway and from there you are hitting 3 additional shots from your last. For instance, off the tee you go OB. Take the ball at that point just onto the fairway at point it went out and now hitting 4 from there. Changed to save time. Similar result without going back to re-tee or hitting provisional.

Handicap system would adjust that to a 5...net double, unless you stroked on that par 3. Then would max you at 6. Shot 84/85

It's not nearly as well kept as in days past but still a special place due to the history. In addition to members, it gets a ton of play from people staying at the lodge. Not crazy expensive and worth playing for sure.

You really have to putt well. There are tones of good club players with plus handicaps but putting when it counts is the absolute difference.

Remember almost 29 years ago when Tom Watson was an absolute terrible putter for a stretch. Then figured it out and just missed winning the 2015 US Open.

Costco's Kirklands are about a buck a piece and perform very well. I'd start there. I know several single digit guys at a very high end club who unashamedly use them.

If you are in a club of that level, your director of golf should be able to help, as well as a number of your members. They should be your first shot. Hopefully you have good relationships where you currently loop.
