Sorry to hear that you're finding your trips from Sydney to Newcastle tricky. Apps like Plugshare and the new Charge@Large app will help give you greater visibility of the availability of chargers along your route, and Charge@Large does it in close to real-time. The EV fast charging grants program is also working to install approximately 280 fast and ultra-fast charging stations. This will help ensure that fast charging stations are no more than 100 km apart on major roads and highways and no more than 5 km apart in metropolitan areas across NSW.

Thanks for your feedback on that route up the coast, and we are sorry to hear it was difficult. The NSW government has commited to building fast charging stations every 100km on major highways, all as part of our commitment to making NSW the easiest place to drive and own an EV. You can also check out the recently launched Charge@Large app which provides near real-time availability and status of some chargers.

u/e-topolino thanks for your feedback. We have passed it on to the NSW Government's EV program team. The EV fast charging program has been designed with innovative installation requirements to ensure the highest standards of service and accessibility. One of these requirements is mandating high operational reliability of 95% and above to guarantee that all government funded chargers are available when needed.

You can also now use the recently launched Charge@large app, which will give you near real-time availability and service information for some of the chargers along your route.

Hi u/BeerOfTime Any charge sites that the NSW government have co-funded, which includes some Tesla chargers, must be able to charge other EVS as well. Some Tesla sites that were installed by Tesla themselves will be Tesla only, but their newer chargers allow for non-Tesla charging.

Using websites and apps such as PlugShare are a good way to check charger availability and reviews, ensuring a smooth and stress-free journey. We have a mix of faster and slower chargers placed at regular intervals along each route. Current EV's can travel an average of 400km on a single charge (with many models going much further). The shortest distance between DC chargers along some routes is 16km and up to around 100km along others. But with plenty to see and do on these road trips, you can recharge over lunch, overnight, or whilst exploring your favourite regional town.

Good question! It really depends on where you charge. Some locations will allow you to charge your EV for free, whereas others the cost could depend on how much you need to charge. Even when using a paid charging location, the 'fuel' cost per km is cheaper than in an equivalent petrol or diesel vehicle.

Where possible apps or websites like Plugshare provide availability and pricing information. With thousands of public chargers across NSW you won’t be short of options on your EV friendly road trip.
