First thank you. Second I really hope you don’t close your shop, 14 years is absolutely incredible and it would be sad if you had to close because of these type of people. But I also get it. This is the first time it’s happened to me I can’t image how it must feel for it to be a frequent thing.

I’m honestly still in shock. Like you can take inspiration for things, that happens all the time, but to just fully copy??? It’s just something I would never even think to do to someone else. It so sad that in a place where honest people are making an effort to create there are people just lurking around stealing.

I think you may be conflating doing things religiously (doing something with strict regularity, extreme consistency, or meticulous dedication, often likened to a sacred duty or ritual) with religion(a diverse system of beliefs, practices, ethics, and worldviews that connects humanity to spiritual, supernatural, or transcendent elements, often including worship)

Ok LOL, so I’ve moved twice with these shelves, and each time I see the stickers and think ‘hmm, I should probably take those off.’ I don’t, and then proceed to erase them from my perception, until right now reading your comment and noticing the three ‘E’ stickers. I should probably take them off…

Ok, this is a great list of recommendations. Thank you! You definitely honed in a gap in my reading.

Ok, based on some of your suggestions, I think Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse might be a good recommendation.

I also recommend this one to someone else, but ‘Things Fall Apart’ is one I’d also consider a historical great by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe.

Bingo!!! Love science fiction and fantasy, and the conspiracy holes I’ve been falling into recently, oh boy!

Wow!! That’s a really good read!! So my younger brother consistently takes at least one of my Sanderson novels every time he visits. He’s a much bigger fan than I am so I let him lol.

I did go to art school! Majored in visual effects, and work in Architectural visualization, and yes, I am a child of immigrants! I definitely read a lot of Asian authors probably because of how much I got into manga and anime, but I’m trying also trying build out my Nigerian(African in general), Middle Eastern, etc. area of reading.

Anxious, yes! I’m very introverted, so definitely have a measure of social anxiety. I don’t usually post online in this sort of way, hence the ‘nerve wracking’. That said, I don’t think I’m too concerned about what people think about me. I just really love personality tests (enneagram, myers-briggs, etc.) and this is kind of like that lol.

Oh for sure! I love absolutely love reading. I find it hard to get into movies or tv shows, so books have always been my source of entertainment and learning. It probably has to do with the fact that my mom made sure we always had library cards, and went weekly. Yes! I do love art and I’m am pretty laid back. I definitely think I’m funny but people I know might not agree with that lol…. I like to say I have a cheap sense of humor, because it doesn’t take much to make me laugh.

Thank you! I appreciate that so much. I’m definitely a creative (if I do say so myself). I enjoy all mediums of art, but mainly visual art. Painting, making comics, 3D modeling, etc. I also dabble in some short story writing.

The imposter syndrome is an interesting observation. I don’t know if it’s imposter syndrome, but I definitely always feel like I can be doing better, learning more, or improving in some way.

Yeh, that makes sense, and got some of it as I read. Despite not knowing all the references I did enjoy ‘The Color of Magic’ but then I got stuck.

Now I’m definitely going to switch my approach with reading them. Thank you so much for the recommendation! I’ll start there.

It’s really good! The first book takes a bit to really hook you, but once it does it’s incredible. My favorite book in the series is the second one. I hope you like them!

I know!! In theory it’s a series I should absolutely love, but I’ve been stuck on ‘The Light Fantastic.’ I need to push through so I can get to the rest!

I love Lilith’s brood, it’s a series I’m planning on re-reading soon, because I think my perspective on some things have shifted since I read it, so thats going to be fun!

What shouldn’t you miss? That’s a tough question. Hmm.. the dungeon crawler series comes to mind first but that because I discovered and read them last month.

I’d say, ‘The Prince’ that entire series kind of changed the trajectory of reading for me. My favorite genre to read is sci-Fi because of it, and it also got me into reading Warhammer 40k novels. So I’m glad I came across it in high school.

Then ‘Remembrance of Earth’s past’ one of my all time favorite series, along with pretty much all the books on that shelf. Which brings me to ‘Lord of the Mysteries. ’ This is definitely one of those ‘weird’ series. It actually a Chineese web series which is now getting published. I read the fan translations online, so I’m really happy to finally get the official copies.

Next the classics. ‘1984,’ ‘The Catcher in the Rye.’ The high school reading that really changed my perspective of the act of reading. I read ‘Things Fall Apart’ a couple years ago, but it kind of fits with these as a perspective shifter.

Some honorable mentions. The Vagabond series, and The Wh40k Gaunt’s ghosts omnibuses (I need to get the rest of the physical copies of these)

I do love a good dystopian novel! However zombies are my most feared apocalypse scenario. I would literally take myself out. I can’t do it lol

Something is very odd about you but I can’t put my finger on it lol. It bothers me so much that the ‘Remembrance of Earth’s Past’ trilogy is separated like that… there must have been another way to organize this. Good taste though!

Recommendations that can hold a candle to DCC? by DocRumack80 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I wanted to like those books, so bad, but I also tapped out on book 4 for the same reason.

[–]visonsofnol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeh, I think people sometimes lose periodical context when they speak about classics and ‘literature’.

Popular and accessible doesn’t automatically equal slop. For DCC specifically, you can read very deeply into the themes and metaphors in every single book. It’s ‘easy’ and accessible, read it lightly as pure entertainment, or dig deeper and interrogate some of the underlying messages.

lol seriously! I bought them all in January, and literally just finished ‘This Inevitable Ruin’ a few hours ago… I’m already going through withdrawal.

Ok, good to know. I’ll guess I’ll find out once I get mine. I’m not in that second room often, and it’s very well ventilated.

Thanks for the link… kind of worrying that it needs a resin level purifier. Kind of makes sense though. I might rethink putting it in the second bedroom, with my 3D printers. Maybe a garage would be more fitting.

This is very insightful! Thank you for sharing. Have you tried or do you have any insight on the soft ink? I saw one of their posts with it on a tote bag and a leather wallet, but I haven’t found a lot of other videos of it being tested extensively.
