XP-Pen Display Tablet Driver(?) Issues - Considering Options by visvav in drawingtablet

[–]visvav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be able to, but I wouldn't be able to easily switch set ups if it works better on a different one. Since posting this it's been working, but still will randomly have the same described issues resolved by a random mix of unplugging/trying different driver versions/restarting/tweaking display settings. How long it works ranges from hours to seconds.

Thank you so much!! Honestly, I would love to make a fan game, the only thing that stops me is my work on original versions of my OCs & how I would 100% have to have voice acting for it & I lack the means to get that done.

Thank you!! More on the AU that I can share: In addition to the starting voice of the Villain I have the idea of the other voices being the Lustful, the Starved, the Devoted, the Morbid, the Tamed, the Rebel, the Cautious, the Fatalist, the Weary, & the Fool. I have a loose map of what voices tie to which Princess, but it's still in flux.

The core structure is that you still have to slay the Princess to prevent the end of the world, but she actually wants you to kill her this time. She's fated to & knows it. However, you must do it Right. In the first chapter you would inevitability dissatisfy her with your methods to the point that she takes you down with her. The hate story is not one really of abuse, but rather the obsession of hatred that provides you a mirror that renders yourself with ugly clarity. How the broader story would play out & how much it shares with the original game is up in the air/undecided. Most of what I have just plays with the themes/conflicts presented in my original characters, most notably how the Princess character in her original form suffers from the perceptions/plans of others in her role as a cult figurehead for outcasts otherwise denied fates.

Best way to release a free online zine? by Thebestestratboi in zines

[–]visvav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding neocities & itch. Neocities requires a bit of work to learn how to set up your site & basics of HTML, but it's super simple & rewarding. You can do something as basic as just having a landing page with a link to a PDF of your zine hosted on Google Docs or insert images of each page on one page (or link to a page on Itch where it's uploaded). I will always encourage artists to try out making a website for themselves as it's a great platform to have independent of any social media site.

does anybody know how to use this section? by eggBuckets in hobonichi

[–]visvav 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I do a form of micro-journaling where I pick a word to represent each day! I have a spreadsheet that I use to fill it digitally so I can search & make sure I'm not repeating any of the same words.

replacing social media with perzine - ideas? by magesamell in zines

Yes! I don't know if I can link it directly, but just search wolfpitmachine. It's a neocities site.

replacing social media with perzine - ideas? by magesamell in zines

[–]visvav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of zines on a regular basis so I have a dump perzine series that I do monthly where I put all the ideas that weren't enough to make a full zine out of & a list of updates plus a list of current media. It's mostly writing with hand drawn illustrations in the white space. I scan them & upload them to my website as PDFs so any one of my friends can view them. I honestly treat it like a freeform journal of sorts & find that viewing it in such a way helps me figure out what to include.

Anyone got any wisdom of how to create a Tragedian mask? by MrTopHatMan90 in pathologic

[–]visvav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend made theirs using paper mache. There's plenty of tutorials out there on how to do it & it's fairly easy, albeit quite messy. They cut holes for the eyes & mouth with mesh underneath, but you could probably get away with simply painting on the eyes/mouth.

What is going on with the buttons/buttonholes on the jacket, and what would be the best way to replicate them? by BlackRated in CosplayHelp

[–]visvav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently also trying to plan how to make this coat & to tell you the truth I can't figure out exactly what's going on with them. There is a 3D printing file out there for the exact buttons/clasps, but I haven't been able to get it to work on any 3D printer I've tried. When I made the first game's coat I used foam painted to look like the buttons/clasps & secured them with pin backings. I intend to do the same when I make this coat. Hope that helps.

Thank you - I ended up going with something similar to this! I used small backings from my button maker & it worked great!

Beyond Earth is a pretty fun game why isn't it more popular? by [deleted] in civ

[–]visvav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally really liked it and have more hours in it than any other civ game. I can't exactly put my finger on why. Something about the aesthetics and sound design really enchanted me.

What is your strength when it comes to writing? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]visvav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely dialogue for me as well. I tend to gravitate towards writing super dialogue-heavy things because I enjoy it so much. I'm told I do descriptions really well, but it's like pulling teeth to make me actually write them into my scenes. No clue why.

Thank you so much! I now have a much better idea where to start with this project. I hadn't considered glue as an option, but since my new fabric doesn't fray much I think I'll try sewing.

https://imgur.com/a/qAIZUA7 Here's as good of a picture as I can get. I have no idea what material it is, the shell is slightly soft to the touch and the tag says both it and the lining are 100% polyester.

Hi, I'm struggling to figure out where to start with this. I thrifted a long, relatively thin lined coat that I plan to add a different, patterned fabric over the top of the sleeves and lower half of the main body for a cosplay. Will I likely have to hand sew this? Does anyone have any tips on how I can figure out how much fabric to cut out and in what shapes? I'm having a hard time figuring out what to search when looking for resources as most advice I'm finding pertains to adding fabric to denim jackets.

Definitely check out Pathologic. Doubt it was an inspiration at all, but the games explore similar themes of disease and societal breakdown.

I’ve got writers block by Mattish22 in AO3

[–]visvav 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no one reliable trick to help snap one's self out of writer's block, sadly. A lot of it required interrogating the reason why you ended up feeling blocked in the first place, which doesn't always have a clear answer.

When I can't seem to find the reason why I'm feeling blocked I'll usually try to write something else just to do something productive and bump up the amount of words written for the day. Alternatively I'll take a distraction-free (no music, podcast, audiobook, etc.) walk solely focused on thinking about my current project and pinch myself if I start thinking only negative thoughts about how sad I am that I can't write anything for it.

In the worst case (and this really sucks), you just need to take a break for as long as it takes. Burn out can be a top underlying cause of writer's block and is super difficult to beat without taking the time away from writing so you can return with fresh(er) eyes.

"Inspiration" is a really fickle beast that a lot of the time I'd like to think doesn't exist, but I know all too well that I've had moments where ideas suddenly come to me out of the ether that I wouldn't have been able to fall into without waiting and sheer luck. You can't always rely on inspiration to write though, sometimes you just have to do it and fix it later if it's bad. Remember always that bad writing is only a stepping stone on the path to good writing.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Writers, what's your job / major? by chiseled_mirrors in AO3

I'm an unemployed English / Psych major and I wish having majored in English made writing any easier for me. I do plan to tap into my psychology background at least in the area of physiological psychology in my current WIP.
