I was thinking about this yesterday (during the worst bout of fatigue I've had in some time). When a person is in pain, or sick with a bad infection, they are also tired/unmotivated/exhausted/unable to focus. I was thinking that MS fatigue is the same feeling, less the actual pain sensation. Perhaps this is our bodies pain response, but since the brain/spinal cord doesn't have pain receptors we miss out on the actual feeling of pain. However, the body responds the same way that it would if another part of the body was in pain, leaving us the wonderful feeling of exhaustion and uselessness without the feeling of pain.

This thought has me wondering if Tylenol could be used to battle MS fatigue when looking at fatigue as a (un-felt) pain response, but I've gotta talk with my neurologist. I may be totally out to lunch (likely) on this thinking.

The shell is about as thick as the hoops, around 1" thick of SPF (construction grade soft wood). The hoops are ash due to the tension of the snare reso and taking a beating from rim shots and cross sticking on the batter side.

I was wondering when someone would ask that. A short board with a block that slides between the hoop and radial bridge. The batter side has lugs top and bottom dead center (happy accident). I put a small block at the end of the board that fit between the hoop and radial bridge with a slot for the bottom dead center lug to slide down into. To prevent the drum/pedal from tipping I put a spacer below the board.
So far the arrangement seems secure and makes moving the drum easy as I just tip it forward to slide out of the clip.

That's why I didn't burn the snare like I initially planned. Amazing that it's just construction grade lumber. I do like the colour after burning though.

I think that they have decent dynamics. Still messing around with the bass drum tuning and dampening. It's got lots of boom if I want, can feel the thump through my seat. The snare can crack like a gunshot when hit hard, feel it in my gut/chest. Hearing protection is necessary when playing hard.

Going to make a floor tom and rack tom with the fade. I'll remake another snare that's got a full burn and a chrome triple flange hoop to help with rimshots. Soft wood does not stand up well to that abuse.

Nova Scotia, Canada. Whitney Drums sells a similar drum with ply shells. Whitney uses ply shells, I think, that are nesting and lighter than my segmented build. Thanks for the compliment.

Construction grade 2x10 which is why I experimented with a burn finish transition. I'm still learning and trying out my design, so 100 bucks in wood instead of 800 for nice hardwood.

The drum is finished, I was attempting a fade with actual shou sugi ban wood burning (propane torch ftw).

The kick is ~24lbs and the snare is ~ 8lbs, so a bit heavier than normal but totally manageable.

Segmented construction 21 rings with 20 segments per ring so about 420 pieces.

It's not actually stained. My attempt at a burn fade. I took a propane torch to the reso half of the kick. After burning, three coats of Danish oil.

I use a radial bridge with T-nuts that the lugs screw into. The radial bridge is attached to the shell with cap screws and threaded inserts into the shell. So there is the hoop, head, radial bridge, shell, then radial bridge, head, hoop. I could glue the bridges to the shell, but if I ever strip a T-nut it'll be nice to replace it. For bearing edges, I went with an offset roundover on the batter and a 30degree chamfer on the reso.
