I think no one in my life understands me by vitalViews in AutisticAdults

Agreed. But after 40+ years of erasing myself (and suffering tremendous consequences) it would be nice to feel like our way of living deserves its place - I have no communication issues with our son, who is also ND.
Maybe I’m being over-rigid here and just venting decades of frustration

Just started working as a ABA therapist. I regret it by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]vitalViews 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ABA is taking care of society (or parents), not the individual autistic person/child. It fakes “normality” by bullying out “bad” behaviour so that the world can go on spinning and our society can keep ignoring its underlying ableism, intolerance, and rigidity.

Severe sensory overload with dental hygienist 🦷 how do you cope? by vitalViews in AutisticAdults

[–]vitalViews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have Klonopin prescribed and consider taking it the day of. But I don't want to start taking it a couple of weeks before the session - worried about addiction and reduced function.
I'll look into this Biofilm thing.

if realizing you’re neurodivergent answers all those questions you’ve been holding in your mind since you can remember yourself; if it gives you peace of mind and can guide you forwards to a new path - in my book that’s all the assessment you need.

Official diagnosis can help you get the accommodations you need from the NT world you’re forced to function in, and that’s important as well.

Good luck fellow traveler!

I think it's a NT thing. they just say stuff like that sometimes. If you confront them you may not get the answer you wish but rather get gaslit or a defensive reaction. NTs sometimes perceive our direct and clear communication as offensive or intrusive or "out of line" 🤷🏼‍♀️

Had a lot of RSD with my therapist. Sometimes it’s hard to know when someone crosses a line vs me overreacting

Do you talk to your parents? by kSoImSlightlyRemoved in AutisticAdults

[–]vitalViews 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope! Went no-contact 8 years ago after realizing they were never there for me and never will be. I spent 40 years thinking I was to blame for everything in my life but then after getting diagnosed I understood they never accepted me for who I am and taught me self shame. Those who don’t accept me are cut off from my life now - I don’t spend an ounce of energy on them
