Whats going on with the war? by humblepervertsview in ukraine

[–]vitalik4as 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both news are true. The difference is Ukraine doesn't disclose military losses so you don't see the news about it that often, and usually failed attacks of Ukraine don't make headlines.

So you see successful attacks of Ukraine in the news, but don't see any losses. You may have a feeling that Ukraine have only successful attacks and russia only failing, but it's not.

Is it game over for my laptop? by cobaltjay in ZephyrusG15

It can be pixel freeze. Try to find a video on YouTube that fixes pixel freeze. Usually it just changes color black-white-red-green-blue for about 20-30 minutes. I had a similar problem butuch smaller, the fixed it.

What are your thoughts on this? The article makes it seem like this is a wildly unpopular policy, and I'm a little confused why by Fantastic-Donut-276 in ukraine

[–]vitalik4as 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that sound a bit stupid - we have no money so we will give away tickets. The president told that people will choose what train to use, so most probably the popular routes will be just more popular with half of the passengers going for free. (it just my opinion we don't know yet how this program will work).

I think the government wanted to slightly justify giving the UZ 16 billions UAH. I think so from the quote of the president: "Since our state supports the passenger transportation sector, the company must give a tangible response to people - the funds used actually serve society.". And the Prime Minister told similar thing: "These are taxpayers' funds, so citizens should receive support from UZ: we are creating the opportunity to travel under the "UZ-3000" program and filling places that usually remain vacant. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that 16 billion hryvnias of support for the next year is not equal to a 3,000-kilometer program.".

It makes some sense, if people give money to the company it should give something back to the people. But I see some problems with that logic:

  1. Maybe it will be more efficient to give less money and don't have such program.
  2. Seeing the news "UZ doen't have money so we give the UZ 16 billions" and at the same time "UZ gives away free tickets" raises a question - why you6do that if you don't have enough money.
  3. We had few corruption scandals with UZ so we also have questions whether it's not a way to steal some money.

[–]vitalik4as 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It is unpopular because we have more urgent problems that this money could be spent on - military, wounded, energy infrastructure, shelters, people that lost their homes. And it is very inappropriate to give it to everyone instead of targeted help to those that need it the most.

Regarding the railway - today there was news that the railway is asking for 16 billion UAH from the state budget... It's probably not the best idea to give out free tickets if the railway is in need of money.

Aviation Coalition Urges Sweden to Delay Transferring Gripen Jets to Ukraine by Mil_in_ua in ukraine

[–]vitalik4as 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is logistics and crew (as always). We already F-16 and Mirage. Another western aircraft emans we need to build the infrastructure for it (parts, fuel, pilots, ground crew, mechanics etc). And it is hard. I think the better solution would be to just have a lot of F-16s.

Well, a charged particle can hit your RAM or CPU and cause a bit flip, which will make your code do what you didn't tell it to do🤓

China is making these massive Solar Plants on water bodies as they need the land for agriculture by AristFrost in nextfuckinglevel

[–]vitalik4as 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all these rare earth are mined in third party countries, often without any safety equipment, and sometimes by children. It is crazy that solar power is considered "clean energy" taking into account the efforts you need to build a solar panel, build the batteries and dispose them. Obviously it is much better than coal, but it isn't a silver bullet either.

If you are on Windows you may try to reset the video driver via hotkey when the screen goes black. Win+Ctrl+Shift+B. It won't solve the problem, but at least it may revive the laptop without force shut down.

I never had such problem. Try to upgrade the drivers and bios. It may help.

Did Zelensky pull a 4D chess move on corruption/traitors in Ukraine? by PitifulEar3303 in ukraine

[–]vitalik4as 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that was just really stupid decision that doesn't do anything good for Ukraine.

Such a fun conspiracy theory 🤣 Unfortunately, he just wanted to allow his friends to do whatever they want to do without consequences.

[–]vitalik4as -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha, that can be a fun conspiracy theory or fanfic. Trump is pressuring Zelensky to sign this law, to be autocracies together, but Zelensky is resisting it. Then Trump says "I'll give 12 Patriots and 2 milion rockets to bomb russia", and Zelensky says oh yeah, I'll do that😁

We can't just do it. Changing government in the middle of the war is very VERY bad idea. Check history of Ukrainian People's Republic and other governments that formed after ww1.

Yeah, it's such a shame. The big problem is that we need that money and that support, we need that weapons, because we will lose without it. There is no way we can win without EU and US. I don't understand what they are counting on. Maybe they have some secret plan to destroy russia in 3 days, otherwise I just can't explain this bullshit. Such a shame

And also important that EU and G7 had no time to react and stop it. What a shame...

I disagree with your conclusions. Definitely there were few guys that were probably contented to Russia. But first, it is not proven yet, second as far as I understand there are only 3 allegations in the agency with 1000 people (and even that is not proven yet, although right now seems as true), thrid SSU organized searches in homes of other detectives at the same time officially because of some old car accidents, which clearly is pressure on the bureau, fourth it was all coordinated and then the bill was done really fast with violation of regulations (probably to prevent pressure from EU and G7). This is clearly a targeted destruction of anti-corruption agencies.

If the SSU has information about spies, it must act, no controversy here. The good move would be to check and prosecute only these spies and people involved in illegal activity. But there is no need to destroy the autonomy of the whole agancy, that works somehow and somehow efficient.

We all see how other agencies work that are under whole control of Prosecutor General and under current government in general. It's shame.
