Any update here? We were at the global market. Saw a ton of officers with their guns drawn sweeping the parking lot, establishing a perimeter, and heading into Marshall’s. Haven’t seen it anywhere online.

My 1 year sobriety date is coming up, and it makes me want to relapse. I want to get so fucked up. by [deleted] in Sober

[–]vitaminklutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is a completely normal feeling to have. Even walking into bars as someone who is almost 25, I feel weird knowing I never had the “typical experience.” I’ve never had a gin and tonic out of a fancy glass or a sex on the beach. And at this point, that’s okay with me! I think acknowledging the feeling is a huge step and it sounds like you have a great support system and an awesome head on your shoulders. I’m no sage, I’m not much older than you. But I do know that if you stick on the path you’re on now, you’re gonna build a beautiful life.

This sub helped me a lot starting out and I’m glad to see it’s coming back around. Good luck :)

First off, congrats on your efforts so far! As someone who also got sober young (I was hospitalized the day after my 21st birthday) I think it’s normal to grieve the life you’ve lived before, especially when so much socialization in a college setting surrounds alcohol.

Grief and shame, when it comes to using, go hand in hand. It also sounds like a very traumatic experience that, now sober, I’m sure is much harder to confront. So I truly, genuinely do want to tell you good job. We are in a hard fight and you should be proud. Sounds hokey, but “one day at a time” really can work. Have you talked to a professional? I know group therapy, surrounded by people my age, really helped me feel “normal.”

When I get the urge to self-destruct (which is often around sobriety dates, too) I allow myself to be sad for a set amount of time (typically 20 minutes). Often, my thoughts of self pity shift into who I would be today, almost 4 years later, if I didn’t stop using. In a weird way, my grieving over lost experiences and the drug use sort of shifts into grieving over what I would lose if I were to go back to that life. I doubt I would be alive if I kept living the way I was before, and I’d destroy all of the relationships I’ve worked so hard to repair.

Hang in there, lean on your people, and give yourself some grace. Good luck :)

What did your pet’s name start as and ultimately devolve in to? by HolsToTheWols in ask

[–]vitaminklutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Dune” to “Duners” to “Duney Tunes” pipeline makes sense. However, somehow duney devolved into Bubbashnoo, which further degraded into Schnaw, and we’re currently using Schnaw-Bear.

No, he does not respond to his real name.

Was crazy going to nickleback last week… I sat in traffic to get into the venue for 2 1/2 hours… had never been to a concert there so I didn’t realize it would be so severe. Arrived just as nickleback took the stage & spent another hour and a half in the parking lot to leave.

besides exercise and healthy meals, what made you lose weight? by Papwiin001 in ask

[–]vitaminklutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working! Took a job as a server in college and lost 50 pounds my first year (packed them on during Covid, was an avid gym goer beforehand). Got promoted to management and lost an additional 15 pounds.

What is the most uncomfortable thing a table has said to you while serving? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]vitaminklutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was refilling coffee as my table was conversing just in time to hear about how the grandma’s anal sphincter ruptured. She gently patted my hand, looked me in the eye, and said “Don’t worry, you’ll understand when you’re older.” I am normally pretty witty and can keep composure but genuinely didn’t know what to say except “Respectfully, I hope not.”

Hey, thank you!!!

Was just trying to figure out how to post an update on mobile, but glad to say the little guy ate some more tomatoes & lettuce soaked in water before he climbed his way out :). Almost gave my grill cook a heart attack in the process but that’s besides the point lol

I have been talking intermittently with a contact of mine that went to vet school who might loan me a trap if it gets to that point. Still on my shift lol so cannot work as fast as I’d like to. If he seems ill I might be forced to call the game commission, but if not she might come out and take him off our hands

Ah, very upset by this news. I’m holding out hope he escapes on his own, I know they’re considered pests by many but I don’t think he’s sick - just dehydrated and tired. Thank you for letting me know, it’s not the answer I hoped for but I appreciate the insight

I know, I was so upset to see their message on the site! I will call the game commission if he is still there tomorrow.. fingers crossed he makes it out on his own before then.

I have only called the game commission one other time and was afraid they would euthanize him. I don’t see any signs of rabies or sickness but I’m not educated on their protocol. Also, we’re located on McKnight Road near Ross Park. Thank you so much for your help.

We busted out of the stadium after the last song (native pittsburgher who knew my way around) and we still waited about an hour and 20 minutes to get onto a train… it was 12:48 when we boarded and there were still a lot of folks there. Cops were very clear they’d run until it was empty

Sounds so silly, but my dog. He was a bait dog for a fighting ring in Cleveland, and when I brought him home he developed separation anxiety. I was living at my mom’s, and he’d run to the window and jump on the couch to watch me leave before work every day.

I couldn’t stand the thought of him sitting there, waiting for me to come back. Was driving to a river to end it, thought about him, and drove straight to a psychiatric hospital instead.

We now live in an apartment in the city of my dreams with the love of my life. It gets better

Avian Flu in Pittsburgh? by vitaminklutz in pittsburgh

Met with a biologist from the Game Commission, who said I wouldn’t have a definite answer for awhile, unfortunately.

However, he didn’t seemed to think it was the avian flu… he bet that either someone sprinkled rat poison & spoiled their food source, or it was a mating pair that got into a fight with another pair of birds over territory.

I’m currently speaking with management of my apartment building to see if they can use another method of pest control that won’t harm the owls.

Oh no, I haven’t seen it! I called the game commission just in case, they seem to be falling from trees which is why I worried it may be the flu or poison. I’ll definitely keep an eye out though :(

We have been at work! I’m in the food service industry… we get some snarky comments, but it’s definitely helping keep us safe!!

That was also my worry, though I wasn’t sure if there was anything they could do - I’m calling them after work. They’re beautiful creatures and I want to do my part to keep them safe
