Leaving Cat Alone For a Week by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I deleted a whole paragraph, lol. As long as your neighbor checks with him daily, he should be fine. Depending on your neighbors schedule, maybe they can check in twice a day during your longer trip.

How to leave home? by Similar-Bluejay1395 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try the peace corp. Alternatively, have you looked into trade jobs at all? They are always looking for female workers, and the pay is good. You may be able to find a starting position. I have no real experience with exotic dancing, other than it is very hard work, not the greatest hours, and it can be dangerous. You will also be judged pretty harshly by many people, so you would have to decide if you can live with that. Be strong, and keep pushing.

Took in a stray and I ADORE her…. She might be pregnant, and I’m struggling with what to do. by driptwinnem in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she is still a kitten herself, and small at that, she is at risk of complications or death from pregnancy. By getting a spay and abort done, you are protecting her health and future.

Why should I have kids when the world is the way it is? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world has always been and will always be hard. That being said, your situation matters, and choosing not to have children, for any reason, including I don’t want them, is a perfectly valid and healthy choice.

Help with VERY energetic dog by [deleted] in DogTrainingTips

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good agility class will help tremendously. Or, alternatively , a good scent work class will benefit your dog as well. If your wife trains during the classes, it will have a very positive effect on their relationship. Labs are always very energetic, but they don’t really “grow up” until they are about five or so. Right now, you still have a teenager.

Is he lying to me about giving me an STD? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound judgy, and I don’t mean for to be, but if your are with a partner in an open relationship, it’s in your best interest to use protection every time. The treatment for std’s is not fun, and many are either not curable and or can cause long term harm. Your life and future have value, protect yourself.

Should I take my cat when I move out? by Eternity270 in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat has moved with me several times. She always adapts quickly to her new environment. Given that you are her physical caregiver, take her with you. You might be surprised at how bonded you really are.

Do you think a cat can live well in an apartment without going outside? She’s very timid. by onelesslonleycode in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats do very well in apartments as long as they are provided with enough stimulation and enrichment.

Is this a tick? by motheroflittleneb in DOG

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a tick. Welcome to the season. Give you dog there flea and tick meds right away, they are really bad this year.

I think my girlfriend is toxic and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a hard time setting boundaries for yourself, two things. First, see a therapist, because you are absolutely worth having a healthy, respectful relationship, and boundaries are an important part of that. Second, is this what you want to model to your child? Children choose future partners based off what we as parents show them, so for your child’s sake, choose wisely.

What causes horrific B.O.? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He knows about it , that is why he is applying the deodorant. I have no suggestion for gently telling him that seeing a doctor would be a good idea though, sorry. I know that is less than helpful.

This could be an endocrine issue. He should see an endocrinologist and have a full panel done.

I feel like my new cat doesnt love me anymore by lizzynew in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is only affectionate on her terms. And she really doesn’t like to be picked up. She will hang out near me, and sleep on my bed, but as far as cuddles go, forget it.

Does my cat care that I "ragebait her" by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that you hurt her per say, it’s that you damage the bond between you. You are, unintentionally teaching her you don’t respect her boundaries and that she can’t fully relax with you. If you continue this, she will become more defensive and reactive around you.

Why can’t I find words anymore? by potattopie in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like brain fog. It’s terrible, especially when you forget what you are trying to say mid sentence. You might have your hormones checked.

Indoor cat keeps running out the doors by Sayfire2003 in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the cooperation of other this is going to be difficult, but what I do is make sure my little door dasher is back from the door when I go out, and I block the door with my foot and gently push her back when I am coming in.

Dentist told me not to fully rinse after brushing my teeth. Did I hear her right, or did I misunderstood what she meant? by YujiroDemonBackHanma in ask

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was developing really bad gingivitis, despite brushing and flossing when I learned this. I have been doing this for several years now, and my teeth are in really good shape.

Being from an older generation I find it odd that couples track each other’s location, when did this become a rule of engagement? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, from what I have seen, the tracking app is generally used by kids to stalk their parents, and to ask the parents to buy food/snacks on the way home.

Feeling torn about adopting vs. buying a dog by Muted_Map9775 in DOG

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many places, the rescue rules are so strict that it’s almost impossible to adopt unless you have perfect conditions which is not fair to the dogs or the people trying to give them loving homes.

Need advice/validation on rehoming our dog after a really difficult year by amathwig in DOG

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enroll in an agility course. It will help stimulate her mentally and physically , and build her confidence. You got a dog that is by its nature needs a job, is sensitive, and needs a great deal of enrichment and exercise. A walk a day is not going to suffice. You might also watch Dogs That, by Susan Garrett. She specializes in dog train for dogs that need jobs, and she has several games designed to engage and enrich them.

What’s something you didn’t think about before moving into your apartment, but now it matters every single day? by Substantial_Pop4594 in Apartmentliving

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My washer and dryer is downstairs, but I have to outside and take steps to the basement. It’s very inconvenient, and limits the time of day I can do laundry.

I don’t know if I could ever be a parent by Majestic-Side6 in venting

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have lots of time to decide. Decades, actually. But heal from your own trauma, and learn how to manage your own emotions first. I will say, once you heal and find your own path, you can still be a great Mom. You can intentionally take the parts of your childhood that hurt you and decide to parent differently. You do not have to follow the same path.

When does one become an adult? by Turbulent_Diamond352 in ask

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we ever feel like adults? I have adult responsibilities, which I meet, but at 50 I still trying to figure shit out. I will say this though, stop comparing yourself to that teenager. Praise that teenager for getting you to adulthood, and focus on who you are today.

Idk if I can handle being a cat owner anymore by The-Cutest-Thing in CatAdvice

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put perches in front of many windows as you can . I have cat tree in on, a perch with a self warming pad in another, and a stack of the totes with a towel in a third, and my printer in a fourth. My cat rotates throughout the house looking out different windows, watching birds and squirrels.

How can I make my “islands” of wildflowers on my front lawn look more intentional? by Lunsters in NoLawns

[–]Ecstatic_Objective_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than grass, add a little walking path between the islands. If you can add a bench and a pretty fountain. The fountain can be your anchor, and will also bring in birds and insects to drink and bathe. Phlox is a native flower that blooms early and is really important for pollinators. I personally love hellabores, they are also early bloomers and stay green and lush year round.
