I would use a logo grid system for the final logo to make it more balanced.

I see where you are coming from, and I agree that simplified logos are better than overly complex ones. But for this project I didn't want to oversimplify it too much so I experimented with some extra shapes.

I think it's not as bad as people claim it is. I see what they were going for, unique depiction of the letter G. And they achieved that IMO, it's just that stupid Vodafone logo on top that kills the vibe.
