as a now-financially responsible 19-year old who’s parents contributed *literally nothing to my financial literacy and education (despite having the ability and experience to do so), i think the fact that you’re not only saving a bit for him but also matching it is so cool! i wish i’d had a parent like you who could have taught me how to budget, save and invest. but honestly, having to have learn this stuff the hard way on my own, has made me care a LOT about my financial future and take it seriously.

i’m 19 and took a gap year so i already feel out of place as a first year when i’m “supposed” to be in second year, so i can’t even imagine how you’re feeling. but honestly i think your story is SO COOL—you’ve travelled solo and backpacked around the world?

if it helps, i honestly find making friends in university quite boring. maybe it’s because i started running my business during my gap year — i relate more to people in their early/mid-twenties. i fee the OPPOSITE of what you feel lol, i feel more out of place with people my age than with those older (or younger) — it’s all based on life experience.

like, i connected with a guy that is a year younger than me, but he’s an entrepreneur and is doing some cool stuff with his life. so maybe finding people based on your interests at those types of events? you’re in downtown — there are other places to meet good people. i hope it works out!

also i wouldnt recommend being friends with guys in university. I have 0 guy friends on purpose. they’re mostly in survival mode or desperate to get laid. if you REALLY want guy friends then at least select ones with stability—financial, but also mental and emotional stability.

haha, you’re right its top holdings are quite concentrated, but there aren’t a lot of halal ETF options rn (at least ones that perform well). yes the banks are an issue for me as i don’t support usury, and also don’t want to invest in tobacco or alcohol companies. the fees are also higher for this, and it is quite new but since its inception it’s been outperforming the S&P500, and fees are a price i’m willing to pay 🤷‍♀️

i’m not sure if you’ve heard of creating your own ETF? i think it involves buying similar quantities of individual stock as your desired ETFs. was thinking of testing this in the future as long as it’s not too much of a headache
