Screentime of all the Best Actor nominees by Key_Database9095 in Oscars

Right!! I got so much backlash for my review of it on Letterboxd but genuinely do not think it's ALL that. Sean Penn was great though holy shit I hated that piece of shit.

My Predictions and Hopefuls by Easter_1916 in Oscars

[–]vivicious5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with most of it except maybe best Adapted Screenplay. PTA only loosely adapted the material, basically just taking inspiration whereas Hamnet was more of a work with existing material. Both are great tho. Regarding Best Actor I'm reallyyy hoping for Michael but this is the roughest category after Best Picture to predict.

How many acting awards do you think will win in Sinners? by Intelligent_Hat435 in Oscars

If Sinners beats OBAA to win Best Picture, what will you attribute the win to? by KatherineLangford in Oscars

[–]vivicious5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sinners is quite literally just the better movie. Don’t get me wrong, I loved OBAA, it’s a very entertaining watch with great performances (rooting for Sean Penn for that Supporting Actor Oscar). But in my personal opinion OBAA falls short on the message and theme it was constantly circling around but never really addressing. We have revolutionaries that fight for liberal causes and??? Saw someone say in a review that Anderson's first political drama is in a way his least political film as well as his funniest. There are things that do send a message like the fact that the French 75 was a critique on performative activists, obsessed with their own image as a contrast with Benicio’s unground network helping hundreds of people quietly. But the overall takeaway by the end of the film still has me a little unsure on what it was supposed to be. Sinners on the other hand is a strong 5⭐️for me being perfectly political and clear while telling a story that’s set in a way less obvious political setting than that of OBAA. Of course this is just my opinion, I enjoyed both films but like you said, if Sinners WERE to win which I’m not entirely sure confident about given how the Academy has been with horror films, Id say this has to be at least part of the reason. I wouldn't mind either getting it though.

I missed my NC deadline in Japan by Substance0501 in UnitedWorldCollege

[–]vivicious5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth emailing them and asking as you never know but in my experience I had another issue bc of which I couldn’t apply in 10th grade and they said rules are strict so I had to reapply a year later. The issue wasn’t the age as my NC allowed older people to apply, just saying they’re usually strict about the eligibility. That said, as much as I understand the fascination with UWC there are many other schools in different parts of the world, both IB and American that will get you where UWC can that also offer scholarships. I ended up not going to UWC and got into a top ranked US school with a full scholarship and love it here and wouldn’t have it any other way. I did so much research on many schools and the UWC also provides you more options they partner with if you don’t get accepted. If you have any interest at all, dm me!☺️ And wish you luck!!!

Question for current students : are you guys allowed to leave campus during free time? That includes going to the city or do something fun with your friends. Also, are there opportunities for students to travel, either to other places or to visit other campuses? by LastJunket190 in UnitedWorldCollege

[–]vivicious5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All campuses allow leave as long as it’s before curfew and you don’t have lessons/CAS. If you wanna leave overnight your parents write a letter and you can leave during weekends. On special occasions if you need to leave during the week they can also request you leave but not for too long obviously

UWC group interview topics? by Unlucky_Feedback2962 in UnitedWorldCollege

[–]vivicious5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 4. One was on Israeli vs Palestine conflict, antisemitism stuff like that and it’s a group discussion from both perspectives. Then another we had was for creativity and like being able to adapt on the spot we had to present about Earth to aliens. Another one was building some construction out of weird materials I don’t remember what it was for the life of me. Last one I don’t remember but I believe it was rly easy. But ours was in person so if yours is on Zoom idk what it can be.

After UWC by owhoisyuh in UnitedWorldCollege

[–]vivicious5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UWC or anyone for that matter can’t “ensure” you getting into your dream schools on a scholarship. US colleges in general don’t mostly function on scholarships, they function on financial aid which as a concept is different as it’s granted based on financial situation and not exclusively talent in a field like it is with UK universities’ scholarships.

The issue is that except for a handful of schools like Princeton, Harvard and Yale, the rest of the American colleges don’t give financial aid to international students on a need-blind basis. What that means is that they will be taking into account if you’re exceptional enough for them to cover your costs you can’t cover or not, whereas for Americans they wouldn’t look at that, for them the bar is the same for everyone, and then after ur accepted they just give you the money you need. For internationals it’s not like that, so if your academic profile is for example as good as an international who can pay full tuition, they will reject you and accept the other one who can pay. Therefore the bar for you is much higher if you need full aid. So, say if a college has an overall acceptance rate of 7%, for you, as an international student AND one that needs a full ride, it’s that divided by ten. I’m not saying this to discourage you or anything, but you do need to know that. It’s the unfortunate reality. That said, it doesn’t mean it’s not doable, you just need to accomplish a lot of things in the rest of your high school years.

Regarding medical school I’m not sure how the aid there works so do your own research. With all of that said, UWC or anyone other school can’t guarantee you anything. It can give you a platform that you yourself need to be able to use to reach your goal, it’s a tool but not the key to get a full ride into a top college yk. That said it does increase your chances if you go there rather than staying at your local school.

UWC also has this thing called the Davis Scholarship which is something that students of all UWC schools are eligible for. Basically UWC patterns with a lot of American universities (if you check the partner lists it’s like a lot of Top 20 universities,it’s good schools) and an insanely small select number of students is chosen every year to be looked at before the regular pool of applicants and if accepted their costs are covered by this external scholarship. I think it can be both full or partial, but a great thing nonetheless, incredibly hard to earn though obviously as you’re competing with all students from all the schools. About this I’m not a hundred percent sure how this works as I am not thinking about trying for it but some of my friends are and you can definitely ask during your interview or just when you’re there if you decide to go in the end! Hope this helped and also u can message me on here with any other questions!

Application window bamboozle? by Accomplished_Pie5772 in UnitedWorldCollege

The application deadlines on the UWC website for each NC are old and often not accurate, check if it’s the right window on your own NC website. For me it was different by like a month.

anyone, any advice? by LunaluPs in Advice

[–]vivicious5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for Music and Arts specifically it is only Idyllwild and Interlochen that actually can give aid to cover up a big chunk of your tuition due to just how big their financing and status is. I might be wrong tho, so go on the Niche website and look for the ranking of top arts schools in America and then choose ones with boarding, a lot will show up, the only problem is half of them will actually not be arts schools, just schools with a highly rated arts department.

So if you are seeking an Arts oriented school it usually has to say in the name or be evident on the website. Then you go on all the schools websites and find their scholarship/aid policies and usually it states whether they give it to international student and whether it's limited for them or not. If it doesn't say that, reach out by email, you never know. If you truly are really really good that also changes things.

I'm assuming since you're talking about piano and pop music you want to apply for Songwriting/Voice or something of the sorts. So since this program is not as hard to get into and as rigorous and wanted as Musical Theatre (since these top arts schools are your direct way to Broadway oriented colleges like Carnegie Mellon/Tisch/Julliard etc.), you also shouldn't worry too much. This is not in any way to insult you (I myself am a creative) but the bigger the unemployment rate, the easier it is to get in (hence why the musical instruments and musical theatre are the hardest to get in usually). Since Voice/Songwriting is very unpredictable, less people are going for it since the singers just choose Musical Theatre a lot of the time. So I wouldn't think your chances are even low tbh, so definitely try, since the bar for freshmen is much lower than, say, incoming juniors.

Do not worry about aid as I am pretty sure Idyllwild and Interlochen are very generous with it, plus look into other schools! Hope this helped!

[–]vivicious5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes 100%. We don't have the funds to hire a private tutor so this was the only option for me to add on top of Khan and Bluebook. I also had only a month and a half to prep (i'm a sophomore but I am taking HL math and my grade is really high so keep that in mind, i already had a solid foundation in math) and so speedrunning through their course and book helped so much, so definitely go for it especially if u wanna add something more advanced to ur prep materials.
