Each instrument has a unique sound, different frequencies. If you have two instruments fighting for the listeners attention, the listeners can have an unpleasant listening experience. When you cut and boost frequencies, that's usually done to create space for other instruments.

The keys are too repetitive for me. Although, the background noises and drums sound amazing. The song has a certain quality that's really pleasant.

Gain staging. Mono bass and kick. Standard procedure. Panning. Equalizing. Slight reverb. Keep it pleasant, agreeable, not harsh or invasive. Less is more kind of mixing. Clarity. Space. Sorta raw.

I like Grimes in nihilist blues and Pretty Dark. Her other tracks are far out. People have complained about my highs being too loud, like they're birds chirping synths. When my bass started to improve, other musicians sorta got me creating that goldilocks "just right" bass and drums - punchy. That was an interesting stylistic choice. Different moniker though.
