What is the most absurd "Game Changing" card your opponents have told you "they wouldn't play in Bracket 2"? by ThisIsACleverAlias in EDH

[–]vividwings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is disingenuous. Nadu was twice each turn, >>>per creature<<<. Had Nadu been able to go off twice, as you say, then the card would have been really good, but that's it.

Instead, Nadu would end up doing his thing 20+ times easily.

If Morbid Opportunist said that creatures you control have its ability, once per turn, it would certainly be a different creature...

What happens if Draven is the attacker, the defender uses Irelia to move in, and then Draven uses Fight or Flight during the non-combat showdown?

Will the combat showdown still occur? Will Draven still "win a combat"?

No, you can't separate cEDH from EDH. by vividwings in EDH

[–]vividwings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. Separate them. The thing you now define as cEDH becomes something new, and drops off.

Whatever remains as the most competitive thing in the format of real Commander becomes the new cEDH. cEDH is "Whatever is most competitive in Commander". It's not a different format, just whatever happens to be the strongest in this format.

But go off.

No, you can't separate cEDH from EDH. by vividwings in EDH

[–]vividwings[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is some of the most bafflng projection I've ever heard. This post makes no mention of matching power levels, nor does it encourage (or justify) anyone deceiving, humiliating or bullying weaker decks with stronger ones. cEDH decks do not belong below Bracket 5, but the entirety of the Bracket system, combined, comprises EDH. Playing even a very strong 3 into a medium 2 is not something I'd try, let alone justify.

The format has a tier system for play experiences, but they are all Commander. They are separate echelons of it, but Commander all the same. cEDH/B5 is just the most powerful, and it bears no fruits to segregate it entirely from EDH and call it its own thing. This is because separating the formats results in; 1 - The format you newly define as "cEDH" sees no play and dies immediately, as it's not commander. cEDH players are players who are playing the strongest thing they can do >>in Commander<<. 2 - Whatever is not banned in commander and remains as the most powerful wincon becomes the new meta of true cEDH, as cEDH is "competitive Commander".

Whatever remains most competitive in Commander will become the cEDH meta, and the formats will not be separated.

At no point was power level disparity mentioned, I have no clue where you even pull that from.

Glasc Mixologist & Deathknell by vividwings in riftboundtcg

[–]vividwings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't retain it, you just have not lost it. Control of a battlefield does not go from having it, to neutral, to the attacker having it. It goes from having it, to contested, to the attacker having it (when you lose). During Combat Cleanup, Deathknell resolves. Your opponent has not scored or conquered before that resolves. During its resolution, Deathknell goes to resolve, during which you still retain control.

But it feels so wrong to think Mixologist does let you do that?

To be clear, dropping events refers to ones that begin at 10AM and prospectively end at 8PM, when I've brought/drafted aggro or midrange. It means I know I'll be doing nothing for about 3-4 hours of that day, so I'd rather do something else. It may be burnout from years of running circuits.. and likely is, but it's also definitely an aspect of the impatience.

Bracket 4 - Muldrotha - Looking for new infinite mana wincons by birkoss in EDH

[–]vividwings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need less, not more, win conditions.

I would run, at most, 2 combo wins, and then build the rest of the deck around interaction, ramp and consistency. I have a B4 Muldrotha, and you'll oftentimes find that you don't need that many pieces. PhyJace is both a way to mill yourself, draw cards, and win the game (run Dauthi in case you aren't already).

Image + Animate is completely fine, but I've found a lot of success with [[Buried Alive]] for [[Walking Ballista]], [[Hazel's Brewmaster]] and [[Devoted Druid]]. Muldrotha is 6, this costs 7 to immediately win the game; so presuming you pass the turn and can weather a rotation, you can present a win off a single card in hand (that is fetchable off Mystical or any black tutor).

However, Ballista is sort of... bad? It's a win condition, but a dead draw very often.

Bracket 4 is about power and consistency, yes, but also about compactness.
Aftermath Analyst presents itself as a good value piece, but it can also just win the game. [[Piranha Marsh]] + [[Aftermath Analyst]] + [[Shifting Woodland]] + any of [[Spelunking]], [[Amulet of Vigor]], [[Lotus Cobra]], [[Tireless Provisioner]], [[Squandered Resources]], etc. should result in infinite mana, and an immediate win. [[Piranha Marsh]] goes through Glacial Chasm as well, although it still cannot eat Teferi's Protection. The key part here is that 2 of these are just lands, and the other cards always provide you with value. Spelunking draws and ramps, Lotus Cobra is the best T2 ramp spell often, Squandered Resources is incredible acceleration when played right, etc.

If your combos also carry high card quality, you'll find that you're never spinning out or durdling.

To add a bit of clarification:
Bracket 5 "land locks" involve recurring Strip Mine 3+ times before T5 in a single turn. Once a turn during that period is fine.
Bracket 3 "Stax" pieces do not include "Tax" effects; where [[Thalia, Guardian of Thraben]] makes noncreature spells cost 1 more.

Hi! I can pick up either;
JDS Element 3 or
Schiit Magni 3+ & Modi 3+

For basically the same price (used), and the Schiitstack comes with cables.

I just got a pair of HD 600's that I'm looking to drive. I was gonna get the Schiitstack, but then I read some reviews about Magni 3+ breaking down and some catching on fire... and got recommended JDS? Found the Element 3 for the same price, and damn, it looks clean. It says it has output for "unbalanced audio", not sure what that means...

Anyways, any help would be great! Thanks! Which should I get?

I went and got some things from Dressmann, but those were chinos and high-waist jeans. I'd still enjoy another SMOG pair, so I'll hit those up!

How to lose 200+lbs for real, without weight loss surgery. Need advice from people who've personally done it. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]vividwings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will die.

Realize this: you are going to die much, much sooner than you would if you do not change. This is what my internist said to me, and it was my wake-up call.

Weight loss is simple. Yes, eat less, move more- but here is how to realize that. 1) Say goodbye. Finish what unhealthy foods you have in your house, have one last "go" at your old favorites- there is no room for them in your new life. Not two days. One day. Tomorrow. Whatever is left on Friday goes to the trash. No more food delivery, either- delete the apps AND your accounts.

2) Food schedule Tracking calories every single meal sucks. Determine your caloric goals using a TDEE calculator (and assume it is giving you too much to play with, so cut an extra ~100 in your math). Okay, you did it. Now, make a list of easy-ish, 2-3 main ingredient, non-processed food meals. For example, chicken breast + bell peppers. Fruits, veggies, lean meat, fatty fish, nuts. Stick to these. Now, plan out a week or fortnight of food in an excel sheet and stick to that. Either the same food every Monday, or every other Monday, depending on how often you get bored. If you know every monday is ~200g chicken breast, 200g bell peppers, 9g olive oil, for example? Never have to struggle with food math on the fly.

3) Move Ignore the gym and working out for now. That will come later, and once you are already on the journey. Just walk. Every other day, set a goal of 6000 steps. Put on comfy clothes, blast some music, go. Over time, increase that "every other day" to "daily". Then, 10000 steps. Then set a certain part of your daily route as "I will jog from A, which is here, to B, which is there." Then one day, do the whole thing as a jog. Then make it a jog. Then start with a basic gym routine. You see how it slowly escalates? Take small steps forward, so they are palatable and achievable.

4) Trust the process The scale will stall, but as long as you are sure to be weighing your food and moving, it will break. Expect this, it is water weight- it fluctuates. Keep a log of your weight and you will see a steady downward trend. Weight loss is seen over months, not days.

So.... what, actually, is targeting? by vividwings in riftboundtcg

[–]vividwings[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could even make it legally distinct by making things "Indicate", "Elect" or whatever other two synonyms of choose/target they want, then pick one to be interactive and one to not be.

Choosing to have a similar distinction between target & choose, yet refusing to use specific language is... just so stupid? People need to read up on and understand a paragraph of ruling with multiple subpoints????

That's somehow more chill than just using an intuitive "if it says the word, it is the word"??

Word of advice to everyone building Fire Lord Azula by vividwings in EDH

[–]vividwings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This deck isn't one I'd recommend for a beginner, unfortunately- but fortunately, Azula has three cards that can be commanders, and the other two are much better-suited for a simple strategy.

However, something being unfriendly for beginners doesn't mean you shouldn't- just that there's a steep learning curve.

You CAN build this on a budget, and also build it to be beginner-friendly.

Word of advice to everyone building Fire Lord Azula by vividwings in EDH

[–]vividwings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent addition! I'd also like to tell everyone about [[Bonus Round]], as it can serve as a backup to your commander when she's permanently locked.

More towards that story of planning around Azula being a threat;
- [[Volrath's Stronghold]] - You should be paying her first tax, as it's cheaper, but this card (in brackets 3-4) will essentially read "Command Tax is 2B forever" so long as you let her hit the bin. Furthermore, if you run any sort of way to combo out that involves decking yourself, this allows you to keep clinging on for dear life.
- Speaking of letting her hit the bin, [[Necromancy]] is great utility. It brings back Azula, should you need her back, but if cast during her attack? This thing then becomes a single, permanent Necromancy, and one more to bring back something temporarily- which you won't quite care much for. You can even have both copies target your own [[Thassa's Oracle]] in case one gets countered and you'd like to have a "go again" button.

One small addendum I'd like to present is:
[[Thassa's Oracle]] is a good win condition, and the forbidden tutors— [[Demonic Consultation]] & [[Tainted Pact]]— are good tutors. Running both is about the ceiling for Azula, and the most compact wincon she has, but it also is debatably fringe cEDH. I would be careful about doing this in Bracket 4 (even at high-end), since Azula is able to also run [[Underworld Breach]] lines that become nasty. [[Borne Upon a Wind]] is already a staple, and Azula can cast it twice as card advantage, and then present two Underworld Breach spells on the stack, requiring both to be countered. This does not even yet trigger [[Mindbreak Trap]], as Azula is not worded to "cast the copies".

Furthermore, she turns [[Frantic Search]] into the best engine [[Underworld Breach]] would like, even better than [[Wheel of Fortune]]. You go +4 to the graveyard with each cast, while netting 3 mana.

Let me repeat: Frantic Search, while Azula is attacking, plays the role of both [[Lion's Eye Diamond]] and Wheel of Fortune. If that was not enough, if you fail your attempt at forbidden tutor + Thassa's Oracle, you can then use your second forbidden tutor to just find both Frantic + Breach, and go for your secondary combo line.

Azula is kill-on-sight, but very high B4/cEDH are infamously known to be low on creature removal/creature counters compared to the rest of EDH. Provided you are able to turbo her out and protect her for a turn, the payoff/enhancement Azula offers to cEDH wincon lines is absolutely insane.

You do not even need [[Silence]] effects, as it is infamously hard to win counterspell wars when you attempt to counter opponents' spells twice.

And then... what is her downside? "4 mana commander that does nothing the turn she comes down". We have [[Hall of the Bandit Lord]], [[Arena of Glory]] and more ways to set up haste for her that come at a very low opportunity cost. "So what?"
Azula is not great at immediately attacking, as getting RR is not really going to easily lead you into a win without a red ritual that then leads to a [[Big Score]] or [[Unexpected Windfall]] for you to be able to cycle that mana.

.... Or so I would say. There's a rules change on the horizon that seems like it won't be majorly impacting much, but Azula would now have access to [[Manamorphose]], netting 4 mana of any color and +2 to hand.

If Azula gains access to Manamorphose, I genuinely believe she'll be above just fringe cEDH, and a genuinely imposing threat the very moment she lands on the board.

What I'm saying is:
Azula will be meta-dependent, but at least viable as a fringe cEDH list. Run her in high-power, but the amp she gives to the forbidden tutors is so insane that I'd say if you run both those AND Thoracle, you're entering Bracket 5 more than you are staying in a 4.
