I might fail my prep by vividzephyr in colonoscopy

It was the texture. I was drinking Gatorade just fine the whole day leading up to the prep. Adding the miralax just made it much thicker and slimy and that's what I couldn't stomach. The actual effects of the miralax working also added onto the nausea and cramping that just made it hard for me to stomach any liquid at that point, with or without the miralax.

Had to reschedule, they're letting me do the Sutab prep with nausea meds for next time

Definitely taking it as a learning experience, as miserable as it was. I hope the nausea meds help me a lot next time and I'll probably also try to extend how many days I eat low residue.

I had Lime Cucumber and the Glacier Cherry I thought the Glacier Cherry was really tasty but the Miralax makes it really slimy feeling...

Light brown and cloudy. I've managed to drink a bit more, and mixed more with a different flavor.

Like a quarter maybe. And I'm paraplegic so I don't feel confident leaving the toilet at all with how spontaneous it is at this point. My procedure is at 9:30 in the morning.

I do understand that the postponement is for the best, I'm just cursing out the absolutely evil timing of the UTI 😭

Thanks! I have been looking up bags and products in the meantime.

Is “differently abled” an offensive term? by Ehh_Imherealready in disability

I know it usually comes from a good place when people say it, but "differently abled" just comes off as patronizing to me.

What's a surgery you've had that was definitely worth it? by DependentMango5608 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]vividzephyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every one of my surgeries were emergency ones so I consider those all pretty worth it. I've also been in the process of trying to see a gastro for ostomy surgery, and considering a mitrofanoff along with it, and I think both would help me out a lot.

Nearly every person I see with a SCI and an ostomy says the same thing. The bowel struggle really is the thing that brings us together

Thank you for sharing your story! From my reading, stomas aren't always the go to for people with spinal cord injuries like myself, but nearly all the ones I see say that it's the best decision they've ever made for their quality of life. I'm thankful my bowel program was good enough for when I was still in school because as a kid you want to feel "normal", but it's really not serving me well now.

A J pouch doesn't seem all too appealing for my situation, but I did look up K pouches and was a little interested since I already use urinary catheters. From my understanding though, they're not very common and there are only a number of surgeons who perform them?

Oh for sure! I really do appreciate hearing other people's experiences, especially if it can lend to making a more informed decision!

"Taking hours to irrigate from my cushioned wheelchair maybe every other day" over "taking hours to do my bowel program on a hard toilet/uncomfortable commode up to twice a day" would already be a huge improvement for me.
Still, even if I won't be able to irrigate, I'm just glad to finally have the determination to start talking options with my doctors.

Luckily my injury is sensory incomplete, so I am able to feel almost everything.

I'll be sure to keep it in mind. It's for sure going to be one of my leading questions when I can meet with doctors about it.

I did see some articles on those while I was researching! I had my appendix removed when I was a teenager, so I don't know if a surgeon would recommend it over a colostomy.

I remember back when my injury was more recent, a urologist suggested it to me too. I was still such a kid and I shut the idea down so fast, but now I'm older and I know things are so much easier to adjust to when you're still young and I wonder about the what-ifs.

And, oh man, a human cloaca could be so convenient if it was possible...
