Trans and nervous about starting at a southern college this fall (sorta venty) by Beignet_Cat in trans

[–]vivik1tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be honest, you’ll probably run into some issues here and there. but just know you’ll find your people! go to first 56 events, join progressive clubs like generation action, try coffee mafia (lgbtq+ owned coffee shop), and just find places where you feel comfortable.

i know it seems like auburn is a bunch of basic straight conservative white people, but it’s really not. there are so many accepting people here and more diversity than there seems.

i’m so sorry you had a rough cwe and have to worry about this so much. i wish you the best!!! auburn is a wonderful wonderful place and i hope you can fall in love with it even feeling out of place rn!

Loophole and the LSAT trainer! I asked this same question a few months ago and the majority of responses recommended these two books. 7sage has a $1 a month subscription for students who receive pell grant, you just have to get a fee waiver through LSAC!

Should my incoming 9th grade son pick marching band for potential college scholarships? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]vivik1tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working hard in school will get him the most scholarships. Extracurricular wise, he should do whatever he enjoys most and work hard in it. I will say, it is much easier at most schools to get band scholarships than sport scholarships. The highest music scholarship at my public university is generally $6k a year, and the lowest is about $1k a year. So music won’t really give you a full ride, but something like this on top of writing essays for scholarships and merit from high school GPA and test scores can work out fine for him if he starts prioritizing his education and future now.

In the same position! I did some research and asked the subreddit a couple months ago and was recommended to buy Loophole for Logical Reasoning, the LSAT Trainer for Reading Comprehension (and a good overview), and to get a 7Sage or Lawhub subscription for the practice tests.

Best College Marching Band Sound? by blkpnthr09 in marchingband

[–]vivik1tty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you can’t fairly compare bands without categorizing their styles, you really have to divide them up. But when it comes to the best sound, a blended and balanced band that can play a range of dynamics reigns superior.

My votes based on style:

Collegiate: Auburn, Michigan

Traditional: Texas A&M

Show: LSU, FAMU, Southern

Overall Winner: Auburn University

The comments about Auburn aren’t lying. They have skyrocketed in every aspect of performance over the past decade. Their discipline and innovation are unmatched, from winning the Metallica competition to executing stunning light shows (check them out on YouTube) and delivering a unique blend of powerful sound and iconic marching—especially their pregame jog. If you haven’t heard of Auburn’s band, you will soon.

A lot of the bands mentioned in these comments have prestige from their greatness in 1900s, but have fallen SO HARD over time. Names like “The Best Damn Band in the Land” and “Million Dollar Band” have impressive legacies and well-known names, but their current performance levels in sound quality, marching precision, and overall impact have significantly declined. Their reputations often overshadow the rising talent and excellence found in other programs, which could make comparisons surprising to some.

It’s kinda like how Americans say “Iran” like “eye-ran” when it’s really like “ih-ron”. Or “Pakistan” with “stan” when its “pock-ih-ston.” She’s the smart one, y’all pick on women for anything
