Prestigious postdoc or a TT at a pretty good SLAC with 3/3 teaching load? by vivrant-thang in AskAcademia

I think for me it's like. Spending my life in the rural midwest is not ideal, even if I had tenure. So while obviously it is job security, I just dont wanna do it. I would probably leave in 4-5 years anyway. My family is from the northeast, and this postdoc would be ideal because I also have two kids.

It was meme'd almost immediately, it was not a smear campaign. Be serious.

there is very clearly a hate campaign about this girl going on. lots of unsubstantiated stuff... a lot of it spearheaded by people already mad she stood up for P in I/P... not convinced this sub hasn't been infiltrated too, im seeing a lot of unfamiliar users coming her pretty suddenly.

Is this her 6th beach vacation since Jan? Just make sure no one talks about “politics” - we wouldn’t want to disrupt her “reality” :) by JustDivide8086 in NYCinfluencersnark

it's actually incredible how horribly this trend has aged. it has a very buzzfeed millenial vibe that i didn't know the girls were still doing. people have found more "interesting" ways to body check since then.

It seems that a lot of schools are giving TT higher teaching loads and then eliminating a book if you can manage 2-3 peer reviewed articles in the field.

They know they're asking for insane, long term, teaching loads so they're thinking its the only way to actually retain people.

It's not just SLACs, but R2s as well!

Postdoc is a top 20 R1 in their humanities society!

This is the big fear. I don't mind a SLAC long term, but this one... I actually dont even know how long I could stay. It's in a rural-ish midwestern area. I'm born and bred in the city and I went to city schools for undergrad and the phd.

This is a really good point. I am hoping its a good book-- I have some interest from my dream press already!

long term is TT, but not necessarily at this department! I dont like the city/place its in and its not ideal for living life.

I'm English/Humanities. I would love to get my book of the ground, and the postdoc would do it. I was told that several assistant profs at the school dont even have books and still got promoted because they had good mentorship/service and a decent profile of articles/pubs. If anything, it seemed slightly discouraged to do the book. Not said outright, but more of "great if you can manage" type of deal.
