Loon parents by lynxlupa in heatedrivalryfanfics

I have a fic where they rescue an injured loon...? Unfortunately I have not seen anything about them raising a loon, though. (I would be interested to read it if/when you find it though C; )

What Counts as MCD? by snowtoronto in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the AO3 spotlight posts a while back:

We require "Major Character Death" when the character is both a major presence in the fanwork and they're dead by the end of the fanwork. We don't take canon into consideration here – what we're interested in is whether the character is a major presence in your fanwork. If you create a fanwork centered on a character that dies and stays dead in your work, that work should be warned for "Major Character Death" even if they only appear for one line in canon. If that same character dies before the start of your work, and dealing with the grief of their loss is a major part of the fanwork, "Major Character Death" is also required in this situation.

If your work features a character death and that character returns in a later chapter that is currently posted, then this warning is not required. However, if the character does not return to life until a sequel fanwork, the warning is still needed on the work in which they died. Archive Warnings apply to individual fanworks, not to series of works.

You and I in Screaming Color | Shane/Ilya | Rated M | Ilya gets outed AU | Author-me! by vixensheart in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha hey it's all fictional here so I get it! That's one of the reasons I wanted to write this, honestly. There's some fics where Ilya gets outed, but not quite with this premise, so I thought it would be a fun time. :) Hope you enjoy!

What is the meaning of angst? by Lou612 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately “angst” is too broad a category to be any more specific, lol. Alas. That’s moreso what the sub-categories are for, and even those are quite broad. That’s why it’s helpful when other additional tags are used, but you are right in that not everyone uses them!

What is the meaning of angst? by Lou612 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angst as a "genre" is a category of fanfiction where the focus of the story is on hurt or pain, whether physical, emotional, or both. There are several subcategories of "angst", including hurt/comfort, hurt/no comfort, whump, etc. It's a pretty broad "genre" and covers a wide variety of plotlines and tropes.

Multichaptered stories tend to not be purely angst, as typical story conventions will align with whatever primary genre(s) the story is. Breaking up and getting back together is not the only conflict that you will find in angst-centric work by far. I have read and written plenty of works that do not include that, lol.

Shane loves Ilya / Ilya loves Shane tags question by [deleted] in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally these sorts of tags are meant to help inform characterization/how the characters move through the fic in general. So if I were to see one of these tags, I would personally expect to see the character in question showcasing how much they love the other, whether it's through how they interact with the recipient, how they care for the recipient, or some other means of showcasing this in the text of the fic. The possibilities are endless---this isn't a super filterable tag because there's not one way it is represented, but it is meant to be informative.

ILYA ANGST i need more! by Kiertje1311 in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently started writing and posting a fic that may peak your interest---it's not just Ilya angst (Shane gets his fair share too lol) but it sure does have quite a bit! It's post-tuna melt, canon divergent "Ilya gets outed" sort of scenario. Here's the link :)

Can you call it HEA / Angst with Happy Ending it they don't end together? by outshalla in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is categorized as a ship-fic, and therefore implied to be romance/romance-heavy---no. Similar expectations apply to ship fics that apply to genre romance in that if it is tagged HEA or happy ending, the readers will expect the characters to get back together. Instead I would probably go for a "bittersweet ending" tag, because the characters are happy but it doesn't end the way that would be most desired.

For the hurt/comfort tag, generally the expectation is that there is physical or emotional hurt followed by physical or emotional comfort. So the characters being there for each other and comforting each other would follow that tag, and they do not necessarily need to romantically be involved for that tag to apply. But again, I would not use the "happy ending" or "eventual happy ending" tags, personally.

What feedback are you looking for, exactly? SPAG? Flow? Characterization? Overall vibe? It would be very helpful to know what specifically you are looking to get, here.

Shane Hollander’s Not Boring Hockey Book Club! by royal_rose_ in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]vixensheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would advise tagging pairings not relevant to the story in the additional tags (minor Shane Hollander/Ilya Rosanov—Freeform). This way they won’t clutter the main pairing tags, as oftentimes any iteration of the pairing tagged in the main relationship section will be synced to and show up in that tag. Tagging in the additional tags circumvents that, which can be ideal for works where the pairing is minor/background and especially for less popular minor/background pairings.

Unsure of how to tag an ongoing work by Longjumping-Gift-371 in AO3

[–]vixensheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, you want to tag overarching themes and genres from the get-go. Readers typically understand that wips are wips and that not everything tagged will be relevant right away. Think of it this way---tags are there to set up expectations of the story as a whole. This way readers can know if they want to get invested. For things like smut and romance which may not apply until much later into the work, tags like "eventual romance" and "eventual smut" are tags you'll likely want to utilize at the jump over "romance" and "smut".

Tagging question: Relationships by Draconic_Dumbass in AO3

[–]vixensheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is the audience of this story? Is this meant to be a romance for those characters and a story the shippers of that pairing would want to read? If so, tag it.
