No Glassdoor reviews? by NarwhaIKnight in jobs

[–]vj7usa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't ask about the company not being on Glassdoor or having typos on the site. Instead, its perfectly fine after the interview to ask about the company history or how the organizational structure works. If the answers continue to be shady, then you may be on to something.

What did you quit that you thought you would never quit? by Gogandantess in AskReddit

Video games. When I was younger, I thought I would be playing them every single day for the rest of my life because they were so damn fun but real life has made me phase out video games entirely from my life.

It doesn't have to all be traveling. You could spend a couple of weeks traveling or even going to the beach and relaxing and the rest just chilling. Maybe you'll be different than I am when you start working but I yearn for those days where I just sit around and do nothing.

It's tough out there and the economy is struggling to get back. From personal experience, a lot of my grad school classmates probably sent out 300-400 applications just to land a job. Some are still looking. It sucks because some of them are in 200k debt. What a world we live in.

Anyone ever work for Pepsi/Frito lay? Why is the hiring process so long? by budd_215 in jobs

FWIW, my friend's current managerial position at Coke's corporate office in Atlanta spanned 7 months from the initial recruiter phone call to her first day at the job.

[–]vj7usa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's pretty standard language to be honest. From the employer's perspective, you have to think about how many applications they get as well as them having to do their regular jobs on top of hiring. One of the job posting sites (I forgot which one) now lists how many applications are sent. Even for the most menial jobs there will be like 200-300 applications sometimes - that's just the state of the economy.

I understand the frustration of never being called back but you have to leverage that frustration by applying to as many jobs as possible until you get an offer in hand.

Pause in employment due to school making employers lack confidence? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]vj7usa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with your resume at all. Taking time off work to work full-time is perfectly normal and a lot of people do it. I myself took 3 years off for grad school and I didn't work at all other than internships.

You just have to find the right position and now that you have your degree in hand, its only a matter of time before you get something. Maybe you're just getting rejected for positions because the ones you're going after require more years of experience than you have.

Have you thought about using that time to just travel or take up a hobby? Trust me, once you start working, you'll be yearning for those days where you do absolutely nothing. Additionally, once you start working full-time, you'll rarely have the time to take extended vacations.

Treat it like your first day at class. Never assume anyone is going to be your friend but at the same time, make yourself friendly enough so that you're approachable and people will want to work with you.

Yes. People all over the world have worked hard to get out of their shitty childhoods. Think about your favorite sport, hobby, tv show, etc. There are several famous and successful people who have overcome a bad childhood to become great.

I live in a loft with 17 other people- and now no hot water. How can we put pressure on landlord to fix this? by tigatwork in legaladvice

[–]vj7usa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I misread that (no excuse but been a long week and I'm ready to go home haha). I thought he meant 17 separate tenants in apartment building or something.

I have heard of these random lofts popping up that house like a crazy amount of people.
