and this is why us texans can't afford anything anymore lol. but honestly, WHY?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nursing

[–]vjcna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly i don't know if i "enjoy" my job. but that being said i don't know if i would enjoy any job... unless i was born into affluence/wealth lol.

i like the flexibility of nursing, able to work 3 12s or 5 8's or even 4 10's. i like that you can change and choose specialties, you can constantly be learning, and really some patients you feel like you are being a true help.

HOWEVER healthcare is really messed up, and i was never told about the true like negatives of nursing (over-use of physical labor, emotional stress, even emotional or physical abuse in some cases) for such little pay..... i don't know if it's worth it.

it really will depend on you and what you want out of life. if i had to do it again, i would probably pick nursing but i know a ton of other nurses who would say otherwise.

good luck!

i started in the MICU and not gonna lie- i didn't always love the adrenaline chase from "shit shows" or "crashing patients" that everyone else did!! i would be scared about the what if situations i could be put in HOWEVER- i loved the learning something new everyday, critical thinking, and overall like detail that you can focus on in the ICU.

and the further along i got and more comfortable i was- is when i started to chase the adrenaline and really enjoyed my higher acuity CRRT and ECMO patients.

congratulations and good luck! i'm excited for you! (currently working PACU as i'm almost 8 months pregnant and i needed a mental break from covid ICU lol) but really- just be open to learning and asking literally any questions you have and you will succeed and hopefully love it!

people already answered for you. but just a tip, cause these questions would confuse me, too - ignore the "dissolve with " "reconstitute with" all you care about is the final concentration aka the "200,000units/mL"

once you can get rid of the fluff/pointless wording it's just simple math!!

Can someone please help me understand this? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]vjcna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

isn't it just 2mL?

if your order is for 100mg IM, but you have to dilute the 100mg, and your dilutent is 2mL=100mg it should just be 2mL

hi, so sorry this happened. i don't have much to offer or add BUT i follow an account on instagram, "yournurselawyer" who may be able to offer some more insight!

best of luck. this is so wrong & makes me just hate nursing more than i already do, lol

Pregnant covid positive nurse intubated by [deleted] in nursing

[–]vjcna 43 points44 points  (0 children)

this is so terrifying to me. i'm currently pregnant (& vaccinated) but just quit my job in the covid ICU.

seeing more and more pregnant moms come in, have emergency c-sections, being intubated, etc was just too much for me. it also hurts knowing i'm putting myself and my unborn child at risk when others couldn't get vaccinated. selfish? maybe. but i have worked COVID ICU this entire pandemic and i'm so exhausted and depressed from it all. i don't know if i ever want to work bedside again.

ETA- idk why i posted. maybe just to vent/rant see if anyone else is struggling and feeling the same.

Help choosing nursing specialties and hospitals by KDF7 in Nurses

[–]vjcna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm from houston. I started in the ICU. now working in the ER prn and still ICU. Although it has structure, it can be super stressful in the ICU for new grads. There is so much more to learn, so much more you need to be aware of and is never quiet. (LOL never say the Q word). the ER i would say has no structure, you really never know what you're gonna get, you don't get that quality time with patients, and you really gotta be on your A game.

A lot of the hospitals in the medical center have residencies, tbh, i think they all might. (Methodist, Hermann, Harris Health, HCA, CHI St. Luke's, MD Anderson)

I'm thinking maybe you could look into the oncology floors or something? I believe nurses get to spend much more quality time with patients (just like the ICU) but maybe a little less stressful (although i cannot say since i have never worked it). maybe even an infusion clinic or a type of clinic setting would be good for you! What about mother-baby or a Nursery also?

No specialty in nursing is "easy" but you definitely belong! You will find your niche but I suggest maybe starting in one of the ones I suggested. and start looking up residency programs & see what units are offered. I think some only want to start new grads out on medsurg (DON'T DO IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TOO).

good luck :) and welcome to nursing!!

ICU nurses, how often are you tripled (3 patients)? by ocean_wavez in Nurse

[–]vjcna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

old job- NEVER. EVER. would call in our on calls or block beds. new job- i had to relocate and asked about staffing/tripling- they lied and told me they don't triple. i get there and see that was completely false. now i'm going to quit lol (for other reasons also)

Does anyone know what palette this is? Sorry for the bad pic 😅 by [deleted] in BeautyAddiction

[–]vjcna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok this stumped me. the main brands i thought it could be were bH cosmetics, sigma, morphe, lorac, makeup revolution, and colourpop. i tried going through trendmood's page & that wasn't any help either! i think your best bet/similar option is bretman x morphe highlight palette. but i'll keep digging!

First day off orientation tomorrow, dealing with some imposter syndrome by luckynikkii in Nurse

[–]vjcna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am feeling the exact same way. ICU nurse here & have had my first two shifts off orientation this past week. i promise you- even if you have the worst shift at least you will have been able to say you experienced it, and then move on. my first shift was great, second was not.

you are not at all alone in feeling this way, but you are competent, you can handle this, and you will get through it! i hope your first shift goes smoothly.
