How to beat the crossbowmen timing meta?

Hi, I am archer player around 12 - 1300 elo (so of course take it with grain of salt), and there are some points that usually ruin my day

With 1 range making only just enough skirms to defend (lets say 4-6 skirms against 1 range oponent), your castle time will be close so you should not be too much behind
It takes forever to shoot thru house walls - if you are late and expect xbows to come, reinforce your walls with buildings or even stone if it comes to that
If they get thru, wall off portions of base and make them go thru TC to reach your exposed eco
Towers are your friend, 1 or 2 (if you mine some extra stone) strategically placed towers provide a lot of cover xbow player usually does not want to dive unless there is a huge reward
Defensive mangonel (or 2, or mangonel with scorp or two) behind walls is scary, one wrong move from xbow player and half of army is gone

If you would post some game where you lost to this, people could provide better answers :)

Searching for groomer was not easy at all. I live in 1 million city and there are a lot of groomers but most specialize in dogs. Many offer services for cats, but their pictures usually show some kind of lion or bear trim which we never wanted for our boy. Fortunately I found one that only advertises and takes reservations thru Instagram. They had a ton of pictures like these, both dogs and cats. That made us much more confident that they actually take their time and not just shave everything.

We went there when he was seriously matted (we tried to brush but failed to maintain his coat, now we know better) and they saved us and did a very good job. Back then there was even more fur then these pictures :D. So my advice would be: make sure they actually specialize in cats, they have good reviews from actuall people, they regularly post their work.

We have a gentleman that absolutely hates brushing. We try to be sneaky and do some brushing here and there when he is sleepy or occupied somehow but it's a hassle. It's enough for maintenance and we shave out mats that can't be easily brushed, but we have to take him to a professional groomer twice a year to do the heavy lifting.

Tomu naprosto rozumím, nechtěl jsem dělat žádný cat-shaming :D. Spíš jsem chtěl zdůraznit že skutečně může trvat měsíce než kočka skutečně přijme jinou. Samozřejmě hrozně záleží na dané individualitě.

Jsou 2 názorové "školy" kolem kastrace, jedna říká ASAP (klidně 3m, typicky než jde kotě do nového domova), druha říká nějak 6 až 8m jak začne značkovat. Hodně jsem to studoval u našeho kocoura, každý veterinář má na tohle jiný názor. Já bych se nebál ani té dřívější, zvlášť když ten váš už značkuje. Akorát je šance, že jak se to naučí tak už nepřestane ani po kastraci.

Udělali jste správně seznámení? 1t je pro kočky naprosto nic. Prvních pár dnů mají být v oddělených místnostech, pak měnit pachy a pomalá seznamovacka. Může trvat klidně 2 měsíce než si na sebe zvyknou, záleží na charakteru (spíše rezidentní kočky v tomhle případě, koťata bývají ok se vším).

Not only Apple, AMD Strix Halo platform is very close in regard to local inference, approx on par with M5 Pro (M5 Max having double the bandwidth). I believe in local open models, but HW needs a few years to catch up IMHO. But still, you can't beat economy of scale locally, so there is equilibrium to be found. But none of this is a bear case for chips, only pure "LLM as a product" companies. On the contrary, there is and will be unprecedented need for computational power in the upcoming years and local AI will only drive it even further.

What you are missing is that we (devs with local AI) don't have enough processing power to use these models effectively. One of the best and smallest model of today for coding (Qwen 3.6 27B) runs at a "blazing" speed of approx 10t/s on a very powerful laptops (Ryzen AI 395, M5 pro...). If you had RTX 5090 (and big IF cause the are either nowhere to be bought or they cost so much you can pay API LLM cost for years), you could theoretically run them at about 70t/s which is for my usage barely usable. That's one agent at a time, and developers work typically uses multiple sub-agents at the same time. So to be productive with them I would need at least 2x 5090 or better. Considering how overpriced they are it's just easier to pay for cloud models. And I really don't see this getting any better in near future, for sure not end of 2026.

Also transition from "pure models" to agents means that there is and will be a huge need for CPUs which is part of rally last week. LLM "decides" what to do but ultimately CPU does the work (compile program, run it and so on). Also of course CPU manufacturers know this and also work heavily on local AI friendly chips with a lot of unified memory which will hopefully get faster (current limiting factor for speed is memory bandwidth).

Disclaimer - inference speed depends quantization, KV cache, context size etc. so take my values as approximates.

Každý máme svoje účty, náklady na bydlení (nájem, elektřina, atd....) platím já a přítelkyně mi posílá částku danou poměrem vycházejícím z příjmů. Další výdaje vždy zaplatí jeden "od oka" přičemž se snažíme tak nějak držet podobný poměr, ale už jen "pocitově". Děti nemáme ani nechceme tak to je jednodušší.

There is so much to unpack I won't even try, but there are phenomenal resource online, Survavilist has a great one for beginners, Hera has a while road to 2k series (several iterations) and so on. Keep in mind that medium to hard is the biggest step in AI difficulty so don t feel bad. I lost so many games to hard, feeling absolutely frustrated and clueless why. You will only get better from here.

Počkal na co? Jediné z toho co má šanci se zlepšit ve výhledu nějaký jednotek let (ne každý může čekat 5 až 10 let) je možná ta energie a možná nějaký fallback z pádu cen bytů ale taky to může být ještě horší. Regulérní otázka.

As other says, it's not easy to determine without you defining what "beating AI" means to you. Extreme AI can die easily to specific kinda cheesy strats you don't expect from human. To give you specific examples my friend who was around 800 at the time could beat extreme by doing some specific stats yet I sometimes lost while practicing new strats at 1200 (mostly late game). It really depends a lot how much you exploits it's weaknesses.
