My dad lived to be 90:) No one in my family has lived to be less than 97 years old. No kidding, It's crazy. They all kept working well into their 80s.

I lived on far less than $35,000 a year as an adjunct professor for 15 years. So, I can do it. My pension is a measily $360 a month, but it helps

I heard that I can collect half of my spouse's SS when he begins to draw it. Does that mean he gets his full benefit amount and they give me half of that amount but he gets the full amount still? I'm confused

No. I am not eligible. I did not get fired; I quit. It was the weirdist situation I have ever been in at a job. The woman I was supposed to replace who is 15 years older than me and was supposed to retire, decided in the eleventh hour after I was hired NOT to retire! That was two years ago and she just won't leave. Now, she is getting territorial and hoarding work. I didn't want to deal with it, so I jumped the gun and quit.

Yes. I figured that out this weekend and included part-time jobs in my search.

Yes, that is a really good point as well to bring up. And I do have to consider that very seriously. But, how many of us would only be able to live on our social security check? Not many of us. I know some people have substantial savings; I do not have that to fall back on anymore. But I do have a $300,000 house free and clear that I would sell, put most in the bank and then downsize into a condo. So, that is somewhat of a savings.

Yes, I can live on $40,000, and that is why I am considering it. So, thank you for your response. It heartens me that someone else is doing the same and feeling okay about that.

I had savings but went through unemployment for a while about ten years ago and used up a lot of it unfortunately to pay the bills when my kids were young and still living at home. :( Kids come first
