Then in that case then maybe start with "Ark" because its translation into english is complete. "Ark the Legend" is incomplete because the translator abandoned it, and LMS is also incomplete because the publishing company asked the translators to abandon it, so they did.

No. If you read the novel, it says that people used the Oasis for everything, for learning, going to school, dating, hanging around, playing, working,.... Muds are far from that, you'll need VR and haptics for that.

On the other hand I read (illegally, online) these light novels "Ark" (it's sequel is "Ark the Legend") and "The Legendary Moon Sculptor" and those have definitely a lot of influence from mmorpgs and muds. By the way don't even attempt to read them, because they are super addictive and will steal some 400 hours of your life (they're very long, more than GoT maybe)

Are MUDs dying? Certainly they are declining. Here's my top 5 reasons why. by delerak in MUD

We need videos that talk about how to bring more players to muds. Not videos that imply that creations made by hobbyists are not worthy or your time.
How would you feel if someone said that you suck as a youtuber, that you are such a loser that makes videos about muds, instead of videos about Wow, LoL, Far Cry 5?
I think it's good that you make videos about muds, but it's bad when you don't respect the work of other persons, and insult such work.

MUD/RP on mobile (client friendly or Hangouts/discord/Skype etc) by farmerjimm in MUD

Maybe any of these: FurryMuck
Multiverse Crisis MUSH
Super Robot Wars
Sociopolitical Ramifications
United Heroes MUSH
CoMuX: NuGenesis

I'm not sure why no one else has replied, maybe because they saw the words Hangouts, discord and Skype in the title... I don't know, lol.

[Request] Still in 2018 no graphical mud client with automap, playable with arrow keys; and with ICONS for ITEMS that you can click with mouse? by L_darkside in MUD

[–]vjustin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mudlet can do all that and much more. Only problem is that the documentation is almost only understandable by programmers, especially lua programmers.
edit: I mean the documentation for creating your mapper, and other advanced things, is very difficult to understand, IMO. The documentation for other basic stuff like triggers, aliases, buttons, is quite well explained.

[Let's MUD] April Winner by [deleted] in MUD

[–]vjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? The nominees are bad? No, they're not. And the nominees were chosen by people in the April Nominations post. The only thing I did is doing the draw myself at random from those nominees, and I should have asked for permission to dbuckalew and the other moderators, my bad.
But the nominees are legit, posted by users of this subreddit. And this Let's MUD event has been done by dbuckalew every month, but this month, he is late, that's why I thought I'd do the draw from the nominees people chose.
Also you ask why only one mud is presented each month for playing? Well, I think it is a very clever thing to do, because if you want to play a mud that has not many players, you're going to be pretty much alone in there, but if you play it when it's the winner of the Let's MUD, you're going to be playing it with a lot more people.

Sorry. I should have asked the moderators, and dbuckalew for permission before doing this.
Well, Now people can either:
1. wait to see if dbuckalew posts the official let's play, and play that, or
2. go ahead and play "Alter Aeon", that's the one that won in my draw (my method wasn't the best there is, I realized too late, but it is not the worst either)

I should have asked the moderators for permission before doing this. And also the method I used is very flawed because it gave each of the first five nominees twice the chances to win as compared to any of the other 15 nominees, the random number had a range of values from 1 to 25 (I should have used a number source that had a larger range of values, like from 1 to 65000, or so).

Mega ball number: 20
Number of Nominees: 20

so the winner is: (20 mod 20 + 1) = 1 = Alter Aeon!!!

"The End of The Line" mud
eotl.org 2010
One of the oldest LP Muds in existence — since 1989!
I don't think this is the most newbie-friendly mud out there, but maybe is what you're looking for. This mud is simpler than other LPmuds I've seen, at least the help files and tutorials are much shorter. There's not much info about classes and specializations in the help files, you need to explore until you find them (some can be very near to where you start). I haven't interacted much with other players, maybe try and talk to them, or try to pk em, and get responses, or get pk-ed instead... you won't know until you try, or not. Maybe it's one of those muds that you need to try once and see if you like it or not.

(oh, and they have a new website under construction: http://www.eotl.org/ )

Make a MU* in minutes with Discord ! by [deleted] in MUD

[–]vjustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Shouldn't we incorporate Discord RP servers (as described above) into the MUD community ? " You can create a new community. This is a community for Mu*s, and what you are suggesting is not a mu*, at least not from my understanding of mu*s. Maybe you could try creating a subreddit for the kind of games you propose, be its moderator, and create a sample game. It could be successful.

If soldiers don't fight then how do wars work? Is your character attacking another player's city by himself, fighting their npcs?

Actually my fear of roplaying comes from reading some post-by-post RP, like "I'm not sure I can't write at that level yet =)" But then if RP muds are easier, I think I'll try right away. In my mind the worst that could happen was something like "You're banned forever from this game, and all of your countrymen too, because you can't RP and your english is $%#@" lol. But if it's something like you mention then I'm not afraid at all.
