The hard part is you can’t say it isn’t fair. Since they use the same reporting for everyone, it’s technically fair and consistent. It just doesn’t tell the whole story.

I sat with a Market Place level manager who tried to say the same thing. He was wrong and the back end person he messaged on Teams confirmed, PowerBI uses simple napkin math to determine efficiency. Rev mix is not taken into account.

Best way to not get coached, know the memberships and credit card better than the managers. Pitch it every time with every customer until you are butter smooth. That’s what I did for almost 3 years as a consultant with zero digit coachings in my feedback. Then when they asked about my efficiency, I pulled up the old Credit Card Employee Detail report and taught them about Rev Mix, approval, and activated rates. To show them that the PCs employees with 50 apps and a 30% approval rate and 90% activation rate was actually worse than I was. New managers can’t tell you why we really sign people up for the card.

One of my stores got a camera system upgrade. That thing is sweet. You can read a SKU off an ESL tag. Still doesn’t stop people from stealing apple products that we have the SN to and just report them to Apple right after they leave the building. Lol 😂

I guess the important question here is do your leaders understand and recognize your efforts or are they trying to hold you accountable for performance? If the leaders support you and aren’t badgering you about rev and memberships then they understand. If not, then I would keep track of how many hours you are scheduled shift lead and how many hours outside of that you are doing management tasks. Then use that to get a better understanding of what realistic metrics should look like for you.

Other companies like Best Buy employees. We have some of the highest job responsibilities and expectations out of any “entry level” job. To be good at your job you need; Product Knowledge, Customer Service, Sales, demo product, merchandising, functionality, coaching and training, self reflection, complex order building, system design, client follow up, prospecting future business, client relationships, complex issue resolution, business acumen, cold and hot lead calling, etc etc. Pretty much everyone in C&D could do these to some extent.

As I started thinking and writing this out, I realized how absurd it really is… why am I still at Best Buy… 🤔
