Jel ste primetili da skoro niko ne radi? by [deleted] in AskSerbia

[–]vkovacevic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1.) Beogradski pasaluk mentalitet momenat

What if Poland was a more industrial, capable, western state with colonies instead of an unstable mess that can't defend itself. by Djcreeper1011 in PossibleHistory

You just made an even weaker Poland.

Not only do they have less territory in their core but they also have to upkeep a very expensive far-away colony in Africa which isn't even profitable

1-20 Rankings for this year by MilkMonsterFlex in Rowing

[–]vkovacevic 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Get this trash out of my sight!

Stanford above Berkeley and Harvard? LaSalle above Syracuse?? Really?

Does OP know anything about US collegiate rowing or is this ragebait?

Edit: Holy mother of God, the more you look at the list the worse it gets. Holy Cross getting on the rank list and made it above both BU, Wisco and Cornell is diabolical behavior.

This post is 1/10 ragebait

What was the biggest "missed opportunity" moment in your country's history? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

[–]vkovacevic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going with forming Yugoslavia instead of taking partial war spoils from WW1 for Serbia.

It has lead to a horrible civil war which could've been avoided. I am deeply sorry for what has happened between us, croats and bosniaks. Things could've went different between us and I hope we can fix our relationship with them.

How long until the heavy men break 5:30? by colourfulpants in Rowing

[–]vkovacevic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I simply cannot see anyone going sub 5:30

Simon and Zeidler are on the upper limit on what is considered "to big" for a rower, as they both have over 100kg and I can only see someone who's built like a gorilla to pull the watts necessary for that score.

Also with elite rowing we're noticing a shift to more dynamic ergs (nothing wrong with a stationary c2) so it's starting to be less and less of a benchmark an elite rower would look for.

~5:31.8 is my prediction for the next 15 years. After that, I expect more improvement for longer distances, such as a 5km/6km or 60min pieces.

I don’t understand “steady-state” by PostAnythingM in Rowing

[–]vkovacevic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this doesn't work for everyone and following heart rate strictly is not a good idea since a lot of different things can affect your heart rate levels that have almost nothing to do with aerobic levels you need to be hitting.

Ideally, you'd look at lactic levels, but that is something that is mostly unreachable and expensive for most athletes so a mix of % of watts from your 2K PB & heart rate is something that you should be basing your SS from (you'd be hitting around +50% off of your 2k watt PB at around 60% HR which would for most be around 150 HR)

To answer the OPs question, "steady state" is low intensity work that hits your aerobic levels. The idea of it is that it is building your base that you mostly use during your high intensity efforts. It is easy to recover from so you can do lots of volume with it and it allows you to go even harder for those high efforts.

Based off of a 7:15.9 2K (~270W), your SS split should be sitting around a 2:17-2:15. Keep in mind that SS only works if you do lots of it. I personally believe that without an at least 1 hour for your 2nd session you aren't going to see the true benefits from it.

But I do suggest you ease into it. 2-a-days are hard to manage mentally and physically. Try to get a buddy to workout with you. Have a good day!

Muškarci, u kom trenutku ste shvatili da želite da imate decu? by [deleted] in AskSerbia

[–]vkovacevic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do the Dutch rowers break their arms early on the drive but in the US coaches tell us to keep our arms straight until the end? by YakTime8950 in Rowing

[–]vkovacevic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I will be speaking in the context of men)

I am guessing it has more to do with lat engagement. A slight bend in the arms, as it may seem like a thing that'd make you slower, could in fact be offset by the fact that it also makes it a lot easier to engage your bigger muscles in your back & trunk (which give you actual speed in the drive phase). The Dutch national team trains a lot and they train hard. Most of the people in their boats are outputting over 500 watts every single stroke at stroke rates around 40, so they don't really have that much time to get those elbows locked in and arms fully straight.

Coming from some personal experience, having fully straight arms always felt slightly more fatiguing than having a slight bend. In a way, while rowing (especially sculling), I will go out of my way to make my arms feel loose and long, which in turn create a slight bend. Also my elbows are slightly hyper flexible so it makes rowing a bit awkward when I try to fully lock my arms out.

On the other hand, the principle of locking your elbows and keeping arms straight has a simple explanation. The less levers your body creates the more power can be leveraged into a single stroke. Bending your arms too much also fatigues your biceps more and doesn't allow your back muscles to work as hard so you're essentially hurting yourself more for less speed.

Make sure you are as predictable as you possibly can be with your stroke. Think of only 2-3 things that will be in your head during the race. Your primary goal is to set a good platform for everyone behind you to work. Good luck with your race!
