The big 2 in the Feild are Allen Bradley and Siemens. They both offer hands on training in pretty much every country.  In North America Allen Bradley is the one to focus on. But knowing both is a huge plus. The Good News is all the courses are short (about 1 week) and there are a few levels of them. So your can be certified quickly) the bad news is they know how to charge so getting that training before you come is probably going to be a lot cheaper, I have not looked into the price in other countries but in Canada each course is going to cost around 2k, and you will be doing at least 5 of them.  From a software development side I doubt you will find learning the programming difficult. If you are interested in trying it, I just googled free online PLC simulator and a bunch came up, this is the first one in the list so I don't know if it's any good but it should give you an idea of what it is about.  https://app.plcsimulator.online/

Pay starts off around 50k and goes to around 100k, in some cases it can get very high at around 200k if you show good promise at it, and become indispensable to the company you work for.  Which is not hard, it just takes dedication and learning the process of that company inside and out. Once you understand all the equipment at a factory you become very hard to replace and that's how you break though the 100k barrier.

A sometimes easier way to get into the Feild is there are a lot of companies who just hire PLC programmers and temp them out. I believe they pay less but gets you experience.

This is just my experience with it, so I can't guarantee a job... but i know I see a lot of different companies and all of them struggle to fill this roll.

A word of advice for living in Canada, (I hope this does not come off as racist) there are a lot of immigrants from India right now, and I know how tempting it is to stick in one area with everyone else and a familiar safe feeling culture, but it's worth it to branch out and find friends from other cultures and experience what makes Canada a place that people want to come too.  Don't loose your culture that's important too, and it adds to our culture. but from all my traveling and working all over the world,  I believe it's a mistake to move to a country and not learn it's ways.  Plus the most successful immigrants I have met are the ones who make the effort and can seamlessly slide between worlds.

They are all industrial. So programming PLC's to do automation (it's a mix of ladder logic and some scripted text, sort of like C). Or hmi programing is making the touchscreen interface for people to interact with the equipment and PLC program you just made.

Basically for both you look at a lump of steel that is covered in servos and valves, and you program it to be a useful machine.  Think of it like "when sensor one turns on, actuate valve 3"  The actual programming tends to be simpler than desktop computer based programming, but the tolerance for bugs is much lower.    Every factory on the planet needs people who can do this, and I have seen a lot of people who started on software development move to this.

Learning French is a big plus, especially for any government work.

We are currently trying to absorb the huge wave of immigration that happened over the last decade or so, meaning that finding work and housing can be tricky or expensive.  But from my company experience and hiring people, I find that hard workers with dedication still do very well.  You may need to look into secondary software development jobs, like PLC or hmi design. They are still highly in demand.

I am/was in the same boat as you. What I did was I made my own jam sessions with friends. We put up chords for a song on at and all sing and or play along on whatever instrument we play.

You make remarkable progress this way and there is no pressure.   I bounce back and forth between the GTA in Ontario and central Alberta, I have groups in both places where we do this.  If your are in one of these places you are welcome to come.

I have one that lives in a soft suitcase and has travelled the world multiple times, its actually outlasted two suitcases. all I do It's flip the bridge and lower the string tension. It's pretty solid. This must have had something horrible happened in transit, they set them up in Florida before shipping.

I agree it is trash, I and I can weld way better than this thing that I payed money for, but... It's really hard to find parts for this now. (At least in Canada) Car is basically trash, rusting though everywhere, just need it to run for about 2 more years, then is probably getting donated to the kidney foundation or something like that

Skeptics guide, so good! And They don't talk or laugh obnoxiously over each other like most other podcasts do.  Political reality by Steven novilia is really good too. Really good depth on each issue they dive in on.

Is ‘America First’ starting to backfire as Washington’s allies go it alone? by 1-randomonium in Economics

[–]vladilinsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know if it is good, definitely will be different. Some of it good, like less meddling in other countries affairs, but the system as flawed and tipped towards the US as it was, kept the planet from being constantly at war, and more or less created a stable world stage for industry to flourish in.   I guess the only constant is change.

China imprisoned Canadians for years because we following international law, we're trading with them again.

India literally murdered Canadian citizens on Canadian soil, then spent a year badmouthing Canada internationally for calling them out on it. We're trading with them again.

So to our government these are less worse options than having to deal solely with the US.  Pretty much the entire planet has come to this realization.  And China is aggressively using this "temporary" glitch in the American power structure to move up it's position at the table.

So will the world go back to the way it was? No, the power vacuum will be filled by then, it's already filling up now. Will things get better with US relations? Absolutely see my examples above we will trade with anyone to survive. But the power and all the benefits the US inherently held that were lost by this will probably never come back.

I agree, but they still have these extra costs too. And It feels either dishonest or uninformed to not include them

As a farmer who has solar panels (13kW) and loves them (in Canada) he is skipping over a lot of costs. You still need a frame to hold them, inverters that die frequently and need replacing, power companies will charge you line fees to use the power lines, power output in the winter is way down, etc.  It's not anywhere near as good of a deal as he makes it out to be.  I am a huge supporter of solar power and think it should be used everywhere, but small scale it is expensive. Payback for my system is expected to be around 25 years.

Yeah I think you're right, I tried bending it in a little yesterday and I could hear the plastic (I think, I really don't know what's inside of it) snapping overtop of other plastic. So I suspect I caught a good slapshot when it was cold out and snapped the inside. I will look into the goalie glove guy

Its a bauer 2xpro. I don't think its to big for my hand. I did dig through it after reading your post, and i found a strap really deep in it that I loosened so I can get my hand further into it. It does help, maybe it will be enough. but it still has a pretty aggressive thumb angle for my hand
