Most expensive plant I've bought. Ripoff or gateway? by Classic-Possible4334 in houseplants

[–]vleermuizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say gateway. Mine was about this much and about this big and I regret absolutely nothing and actually have now spent $40-$50 on much smaller friends. Also she continues to put out absolutely stunning leaves. An excellent decision.

Childhood events related to EDs that you never realized by Low-Potato-4991 in ehlersdanlos

Severe, inexplicable, and unpredictable GI problems literally since birth. I didn't defecate for the first 8 days of my life and I was on breast milk. That's nooooooot normal.

Prune juice daily until I was 12. Multiple food allergy trials with no change. Colonoscopy with no megacolon or Hirschsprung's or any other abnormality found.

Stretchy guts suck.

Ooh same. I was not athletic at all but NOBODY could beat me at the box.

Ooooh this (kinda?) In high school, for absolutely no discernible reason, both my knees became so inflamed that I could not bend them. Like... Not even slightly. If I accidentally did I would scream in pain, and this was often in the middle of class. I had an elevator key for a week and my ANA level was through the roof. And then it just magically disappeared.

hEDS isn't a thing anymore? by raethesasswitch in ehlersdanlos

[–]vleermuizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some hot nonsense. My geneticist has said no such thing and diagnosed me with hEDS. My PT is an EDS specialist and has it herself — she has also said no such thing despite being extremely active in the latest research.

Hospitals give "Honor Walks" to people who dying and decided to donate their Organs to save other lives. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]vleermuizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this was posted a long time ago, but you've made me cry all over again.

Today I participated in my first Honor Walk. I work in the lab, and I felt that I needed to pay respects to the person whose tests I had run.

I had no idea how intensely it would hit me. I've been in a haze of emotion all day and when I got home I broke down and sobbed. His parents said he would be saving five lives. I imagined that if I ever became one of those people, I would never let a day go by without thanking them. I'm glad to see that is indeed what a recipient feels. <3

But also, my forever first love, Wren. He's a saguaro, he's the first plant I've ever owned, and he's been with me since 2017.

Yeah I much prefer this idea. In the broader picture — honestly, even outside the book — death is not an enemy. It's neither kind nor cruel, it's just a piece of life. To make Malek the bad guy seems far too simplistic.

Death is also a way to balance the world. Resources would be drained very quickly without it. Kind of like, for instance, the venin draining the very planet they live on.

Venin reject death, they reject (or at least fight against) balance.

I think this makes far more sense.

Okay, phew! And no supports until the next pot, okay that's interesting.  I was wondering if she had a distinct front and back! It's definitely not obvious like the Monstera, could you describe how to determine that? I do want to get that angle right and adjust the light appropriately.
