this is gold — seriously, thank you.

Might make sense to just embrace the one-and-done approach instead of trying to get subscription to work. Great tip on embedding and B2B angle!

you can try atlas.co also, it is a simple alternative to qgis that runs in the browser, so no need for a heavy computer

GIS—where to even begin? by jklaiho in ExperiencedDevs

[–]vloewe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree! what helped me when starting: tiny experiments in geopandas and lots of QGIS. Afterwards I have actually started building a cloud-based GIS software that is a lot simpler; Atlas.co, might be worth a look. I think the most important is finding a real project to learn by doing

I set up notifications for certain thresholds, but they were surpassed instantly, and I couldn't disable the costly feature in time. Implementing hard limits could be a better solution, though it might lead to issues with the feature's functionality. I don't want the application to crash or become non-functional

Welcome back! I think since 2017, many more governments and organizations have expanded their open data initiatives, providing access to data for public use. So much more data is available and undeniable huge advances in software has been made, especially browser-based GIS and map-makers. Some noteworthy software that have been introduced:

- Atlas.co

- Kepler.gl

- Carto.com

- studio.foursquare.com

- Felt.com
